I remember reading some thread here at CT regarding a potential premium for coins where the MM was actually touching the "9" in the date.

Well the MM on this 1956-D is so close to the "9" that it even indented the tail of the "9".

This looks like one I've seen several times before. In unc grades there was a very thin space between the two. Your pics are a little to blurry to see if they are touching. Another nice find...

My eyes must have been straining when I took those last photos , because this morning they really do look blurry.

Here are some close ups taken with my microscope:

Can you get a shot of the area below the primary mint mark?

I did not see any indication of another MM in the field below the primary but there were some strange markings on Lincoln's best in that area.

Hmmm...I'm not seeing anything in those photos. Thought it might be a D over D.

Yep looks pretty darned close. Even though your coin is very circulated like mine , the clarity of your photo and your lighting are great !

Certainly interesting and an eye catcher. I have one in '56 and another in '52 or 3. I do not know it is an 'error' but I kept mine..Tony67

Hello..In browsing and learning this blog..I saw your interesting obsrvation on the vest. Those marks are not strange to me. I have seen them. I have them on a 1939 'S' penny MS66. Under the lens they are quite visible. When I find an answer..with the coin right here..I will continue. Good and interesting catch..Tony67

Further look tells me to follow up on the 'creases'. Specifically those across '9' and the '5'. Also the line going NE? above the MM. The crease on the 6 may be telling. Although the secondary image on Mr. Lincoln's jacket is on a lot of coins..I would find a comparable coin. Inside the loop on the '6' may be another clue. My tired eyes have found many solid errors in 1950's and the well stamped 1960's coins I have encountered. There is something new every day. Patience and persistence are good friends in this world..
There is sufficent double strike, for me, to check further..Tony67

Not sure if eyes are tricking me but could that be die clashes?
