How many collectors here collect pre-64 as opposed to post 64 (modern)?

    Both.

Post-64 - what I like. But try to complete all the sets to 1991. After that, you start getting into the silver proofs for each set and that would severely limit other areas where I could spend.

Pre-64 - I'm way too much of a "complete the set" kind of guy. However, most of the pre-64 stuff's value is determined by the current silver price rather than its numismatic value :)

    JimZip,

I took your advice to heart and totally changed my posts.

I started collecting the old classic coins, like Morgan dollars, and didn't bother with the modern coins until I started to complete my Jefferson nickel collection. The Jeff nickel doesn't have silver (except war nickels), so the complete set just slides by 1964 and keeps going. So that got me into the modern series of coins and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a lot of interesting stuff to collect there too.

I always liked the Kennedy half dollar so I started collecting that. Then that got me into the Ike dollar, and I completed a full set of that.

So I guess I go wherever coin collecting takes me.

    Enjoy the adventure.

I think Mercs, Buffalos, Standing Libertys, and Walking Libertys are the most sought after sets

Almost all mine are pre 1964 since it was dormant since 1972. Recently started updating circulated sets to date though. Once in a while find a nice one roll searching.

I too am very fond of dimes. Most of them can be had are reasonable cost so I do both pre- and post- 1964. For example I have some nice 1964+ FT/B Roosevelts which are true gems. I like them for what they are - very nice collectible coins!
