Erin, how do you talk these tellers into just handing you hundreds of dollars worth in silver for face value? I mean, what do you say to them to broach the subject initially?

Today I went to TD bank to get a roll of nickels to fill out a book I just got. To my suprise there was a 1942-D in the roll in good shape.I also picked up 3 roll's of cents and there was 6 wheat's and two 2010's. Heh, $4.50 can go a long way!

I stopped getting rolled coins from the bank customers just because they are so gross and nothing good from them. had to move to pre-rolled coins by a company.

Good table, lol. You guys must have rough wheat penny areas. I seem to average one a dollar, minimum, around here, when sorting coppers. Another $500 from TD yielded jack, that was the remainder of what I ordered early last week. Gonna pass them up for now and try local banks for a bit.

Found my first silver yesterday! Got $360 in bank rolled halves. First half had nothing, then I found a 1967, then 3 1964s and one 1942 walking liberty! I was so excited to find all those. Also found a 2006 that I need for my album. Definitely gets me back into roll searching.

I got a machine roll that had a nickel with like a chunk of oily dirt/ sludge stuck to it, so it doesn't matter how you get them. Now I gotta figure out what to do with it cuz i dont want to touch it either!

You guys , even the bank rolled cents from the $25.00 boxes have some REALLY scary coins in them.

I think there are some people in this world that have personal vendettas on Lincoln , the way some cents are intentionally gouged and mutilated.

Then there are so many cents that have green and black stuff just eating them alive. ( it might be because of the moist climate here in the Pacific North West )

Then there are those coins that have what looks like dried blood all over them YUCK !!!

I think the idea of wearing cotton gloves ( or even surgical gloves ) is a good idea for more than just handling uncirculated coins.

I usually roll search only halves and cents. However, I'm out of cents at the moment so I went through a half of a box of nickels that I had stashed away (I've got about 2k worth of nickels in sealed boxes....just in case!)

    I found a 1937 Buffalo Nickel in F, two war nix and 4 pre-1981 canadian! (99.9% nickel)

Not too shabby! Beats getting skunked on another box of halves...

Well, I'm back after a long hiatus. I was finishing my Master's Thesis. Anyhow, I worked 27 rolls of pennies the last couple of days. I found four wheats from the 1940s, one 1980 Canadian, and an 1883 Indian Head Cent in G. My first IHC from a roll! I was pretty surprised.

I've got a box of halves on order at the credit union, but it wont arrive until a week from Wednesday, so until then I'll keep working pennies and nickels.

    bobbeth87,

Do you ever do boxes of quarters ?
If so , what have you found the silver success ratio to be ?

    Thanks

    Quarters

    Hey Kanga,
I have never found a single silver quarter from rolls. I'm sure there are a few, but they circulate a lot and are easy to pick out. I think you'd have better luck in just about any other denomination finding silver (except maybe pennies) :)

Never done quarter rolls because they circulate so much. However, I did look through several hundred dollars of quarters from a friend's coin wash business and found one silver quarter.

Dime boxes I find about 1 per box, and bags of dimes, 5-8.

no banks in my town will order halves for me and there are 6!! i am going to hit up downtown pittsburgh and try some of the banks there. i was even willing to open an account. i live right outside the "downtown" area, i could basically walk, but i am to lazy, i will take the bus.

i did open a roll of lincolns and found a 1957 wheat, that looks at least au. i never found one that still had all of its shine! it is weird looking at the reverse and seeing that red shinny wheat.. i will get some pictures of that along with ihc that is toned green/blue that i found in a roll.

Kanga, im down here in walla walla and I find those from time to time.

these bags of coins I hear people talking about, getting them from banks or what?

Well I guess there are a couple of folks here that have connections with Coinstar & I think they get bank bags ( not sure I understood that part correctly ).

But most of the Half Dollar searchers are buying bank boxes at face value from banks & credit unions.

Then there are those of us who spend way too much money and buy the 10 , 17 or 34 pound bags of Wheat Cents off of eBay. I have been through a few of them and from my experience they were the biggest waste of money. Personally it feels much better paying $25.00 for 2500 pennies from a bank and actually finding about a few dozen keepers.
