You know Gary, that's the traditional good old American Way of doing things. Time was, you'd solve the problem on the local level. You didn't go searching for solutions "out of the box" or "off the shelf". Lots of times there was no solution at all, unless you came up with one yourself. I commend you my friend.....

True. The availability and access to the internet in some ways has made a lot of folks soft and helpless. I mentioned to my cousins the other day about how we had rotary phones when I was young, and they had no clue what a rotary phone was. (They're 'Generation-Me'). My father had a party-line wired between the house and his shop... they had absolutely no clue what that was!

It's amazing how many things my father could build and fix only using a roll of masking tape, a butter knife, and a hammer.

A camera can do more detail, But a scanner is quicker and does a fairly good
    Job :)

    I totally concur :thumb:.

For "showcasing" a coin (for whatever reason), a camera works best.

In cases of batching, for example, taking an clear album sheet of flipped coins for the purposes of quick mass imaging into inventory software (for tracking, management, and insurance purposes), my scanner is most effective.

Yes, but give one a welder, disc grinder with a cutoff wheel. Compressor and a chest of pneumatic tools and LOOK OUT !

Ok, got the scanner set up. I think I prefer the scanner for closeups. The first pic is the best I could do with the camera I have. The second 2 are with the scanner.

Because the scanner shows so much reflective light, I think the camera took the better picture. But, I feel your pain with it, as I am still trying to get a consistent method of taking pics that seems impossible, LOL

    Nice Images

To me, scanners always make designs and devices look inverted. I think the photo more accurately, definitively shows detail, and coin surface; while the scanner does not.
