I stand corrected. :confused:There must've been more than one burial contest in Va. Your contest is different than the one I was thinking of... :goofer:

Oh, let me make this clear, I did NOT mean anyone under the age of 40 is lazy.!!
I know it may of sounded like that, but what I meant in saying that is, I think someone who is 40 or more has worked (hopefully) for a good number of years. Someone who probably got married, had some children, had life struggles, all while trying to have a hobby of collecting coins.
I want someone who has paid their dues, so to speak.
That one person, who tried to make ends meet for YEARS, while trying to raise a family.
I did read all the replies, and appreciate all the good advice. I will do 2 things:
    1) Use a reference point, by tree, by rock, fence, post, building, etc....
    2) Will use a GPS for coordinates or waypoints.
I also don't really want to let this go for free so to speak. I guess what I am saying, is I could auction off the coordinates or waypoints in some way. Or other suggestions?:loud:
I am not trying to profit from this really. I would just give this to someone close to me really who would appreciate it.:eating:
I guess I am more apt to just bury it as a way of a treasure really. But lets be honest, I would want someone who really, really would keep it. not sell it.
I don't know what to do, as I do not want to ruin the coins either....
    What to do??? Hmmmm......

So, who is going to get the coordinates. I was born in Va so I go up there all the time. It would be fun to go on a treasure hunt with my son :thumb:

I'd like to volunteer to give those coins a nice and appreciative home. I've been collecting for 45 years so I meet the age and lifelong interest requirements.

I'm also the father of five, so collecting was sparse at times. I do admit that my children have given me great joy for the most part.

Unfortunately, I was also heart broken as I buried one son who was also a collector. I would do anything to be able to bury the collection instead, but his collection and my dad's are now cherished parts of my own.

Man, there are people under 40 ? Oh yeah, I see them around from time to time. They are the ones with the jobs. LOL

Seriously, it took me 50 years to learn the only person whose actions you have any influence over at all is yourself. The boys will either come around, or they wont. But that is beyond anything you can do. I think you ought to sell the coins and take a trip with the money. Anywhere you always thought about going. More fun anyway. Or buy some presents for the wife or friend ?

But, if you are serious about handing it out. I really would like a 1916D and a 42/41 to finish my circulated Mercs. LOL Never going to buy them unless I hit the Lottery !

    Good luck

They're your coins so I'm not going to tell you what I think you should do. I havent' been someone who has been collecting a long time. In fact, it was my 6 yo son who got me into collecting recently. I've found it to be a great and rewarding hobby and good time to spend with my son and even my daughter.

I'm sorry to hear about the bad times you've been having with your sons, and actually have mixed feelings about you burying stuff. If burying them makes you happy, I wish you the best of luck and I hope everything works out for you and your sons over time.

The prospect of finding "treasure" is also thrilling so burying it is fine too.

It's your stuff that you collecting with your time and money, I'm sure enjoying most every minute of it.

Good luck with whatever you ultimately decide; I hope it makes things better for you.
