Whats your opinion?Just got this one, its a 1925 which is extremley rare with full split bands. Its obviously split but I am just curious if the nick mark will take the designation away. Ill get pictures of the whole coin in a sec (camera is charging) thanks. bands at 150x
If it were a Jefferson nickel that nick would keep it from being FS. If it were a Franklin half that nick would keep it from being FBL. I don't know what the standards are for Mercs.
I agree with GDJMSP after seeing the additional photos. The hit will likely stop the coin from being graded FB/FSB by PCGS/NGC. However, the coin may be worth a try given the rarity of FB on this date. That said, it never made sense to me that a hit would stop a coin from being considered fully struck. Hits and strike have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Except if that hit is positioned just in the right spot to make it look like it was a hit and not the weak die. Unfortunately some people would try to take their just short of a FSB and make an intensional hit on the weak spot to try to get the bump. Especially on big ticket ones.
I think so too. Of course with me that would go into an Album so I wouldn't even think of sending it to anyone for slabbing.
Exactly where it is going actually:smile Thanks for the advice guys. I like the coin and the price was right, just would have been cool to get the rare bands for this year.
