So as usual I am checking the 10 Cents each of 11 for a Dollar World coin bin at my favorite shop and digging through the mound of foreign coins looking for some neat finds when I come across this flip... not to bad for 9 Cents since I purchased 22 coins for $2:bigeyes: Also I got a worn British Florin from 1920 which the .1818 ASW was worth more than I paid for the 22 coins combined. But I would say that this Swiss 20 Francs is by far the greatest pull I have ever gotten out of the bin. I am very pleased. (Please also list your recent great finds and post pictures for everyone!)
Nice cherry! I can just imagine sitting there, looking around and saying to myself, stay cool-breathe-remain calm.
Exactly!!! That was my exact initial response and my next was to examine it real closely to make sure it didn't say replica or copy It definitely made my week!
Why they doubled their money? They pay people 5 cents for every coin they put into the box and I payed them 10 as per their price on the bin. It isn't my fault that they care more about taking in peoples scraps and running a scrap business or only caring about U.S. and Bullion coins to assign one of their employees to go through the bin. Further more I offered to work for them a year ago when I was unemployed and needing work, I offered them that I have a passion for Antiques, Jewelry, and World Coins and that I could bring my World Coin knowledge to the table and would love to learn everything that they could teach me. If they had hired me I would inform them of anything that I found before purchasing from them. But as a customer they are not privy to my my acquired knowledge or time invested into my hobbies and I will purchase from them as any other Business establishment at the advertised price, my moral obligation is fully met. As a customer I tell many people about their fair trade practices and encourage business their way when ever I can, also I give them books or things that I think they could use and purchase all of my coin supplies from them, plus some of their other items in the cases and jewelry from time to time. (Sorry, you can not guilt trip me on this one) Also note that if I were going to choose to buy coins from a non-business, such as a friend or stranger I would consider it my duty as a numismatist to inform them of the most honest value that I could before engaging in a transaction. I.E. a guy I know from NJ showed me 3 boxes full of binders of old silver U.S. coins of every kind, left to him from his mother and told me he only wanted $300 for all of them. I told him he is crazy and they are probably worth $1000's and that if he wanted he can send me portions at a time to sell off for him at a 80% him/ 20% me cut of the profits, he said he would be willing to do 50/50 and I told him I do not believe that is fair and that my standard is 20%. But in this case of the 20 Franc, I do not feel any obligation beyond their asked for price and I have spent years of time searching and visiting and even leaving empty handed or just with supplies. So no, my time is valuable and so is my knowledge!
I just think there is a difference between a legitimate cherrypick of a dealer and purchasing something that obviously is mispriced or misplaced. Not everyone thinks like I do.
Great cherry pick. I think you should go out and buy a lotery ticket because your luck is going great right now
******* One time a few years ago I was looking at used Whitman folders marked at $1 each. As I was sorting through the stack a Buffalo nickel fell out. Opening the Buffalo nickel folder to put the coin back, I saw about ten more coins in there. A second one had about 8 or nine Buffalos in it. So I told the owner these folders still have coins in them. He says "Yeah, I haven't had time to go through them." I put them back and bought something else. A couple of months later I went back and looked through the same stack. Guess what? The same 2 folders still had Buffalos in them. I held up the 2 folders signaling I was ready to check out. "Two bucks" he says and I went home with maybe 18 nickels and 2 folders. And I don't feel a bit guilty. There were other times when I overpaid buying Indian head cents from this guy.
I took some picture with my camara! Is this coin Unc.? or does it show wear? The clear plastic flip has scratches on the outside.
