Usually people don't find snipe bids amusing as they cost them money. I am not particularly fond of secondary toning but my bigger concern with this coin is the seller. They sell a lot of raw problem coins with extremely optimistic photos. The best thing about this seller is this:

At Great Southern Coins, customer service and customer satisfaction is number one. On the return policy of coins and supplies, customer satisfaction and a confident buyer experience for our customers is very important to us. Great Southern Coins has an unconditional return policy if notified within 10 calendar days of the receipt of the merchandise.

    • All returned coins must be in their original holder
    • All return requests must be made within 10 calendar days of receipt of the merchandise.
(When returning merchandise, please include the item number.
This will expedite the refund process.)
My advice, don't remove it from it's holder and examine the coin very closely for an old cleaning or luster problems due to being dipped. If the coin is problem free, I would grade it MS62-63 range.

You do realize that I didnt snipe it??? I put an enormous bid in on the coin and and he came in to try to snipe it. why would you feel that it is secondary toning? I wishd I would have known about there track record before………. so I am guessing I should prolly cross my fingers I lose this one????http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...86241&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT#ht_3399wt_935

Geesh I was all excited to see the coin and now I need a beer:computer:

I know the other guy tried to snipe it, but your initial post made it sound like you were almost happy about the fact a sniper could come along so you could crush him.

The mottled nature of the toning pattern in combination with that green peripheral color is often an indicator of secondary album toning. If you get the coin and the luster is gone, you can assume it was dipped and retoned.

As far as the seller, I am one person and that is my opinion. From what I have heard, they honor their return policy, no questions asked. If you get the coin and don't like it, simply return it. No harm done. As far as the beer goes, I don't even have an excuse and I am gonna have one.

you gotta understand I woke up this morning and the first thing I thought was "My coin ends today"………..I have been sniped so many times when it matters and never when the coin isnt that important to me….thats all that was. I am hoping that the lackluster photo is to capture detail. if the coin comes without luster I will be severley ………….

Enjoy your beer I will be in contact with you soon about that other!!!

Don't you hate when that happens Lehigh :computer:.

From the pics, which like Lehigh said, tend to be optimistic, I don't believe that '37 is " Solid GEM BU". Imo I'd call it AU, looks like there is some clear wear on the highpoint (especially the cheek and breast).

I hope it's as nice as pictured.

    I noticed it's a Great Southern.

    I purchased from them once.

Thank you very much for posting the image. I would not have paid what the buyer did for that coin.

Perhaps it was Katrina Louisiana swamp water that got in-between the cardboard flip, the coin, and the album pages after the levees broke...

    what is sniped?
When I think of sniped I think of the military term for an mechanical engineer

Sniping is bidding at the absolute last possible [milli]second with [increasingly higher] offers [and as much as it takes in raises] that beats out any other competition [up to a predetermined limit]

There is software out there that folks can obtain which does this. A Google search can provide you with additional information if you care to do a search.

The practice is viewed by some as being unfair and/or sketchy.

    i aint going to lie....
i personally do not see a problem in that. if its an item i want, i feel i have the right to wait till the end and see what it is at. then put my max bid i am willing to pay.

if its something you want, why not wait and see what the price range is, then bid?

i think its sorta dumb to put a bid in days before, then not look at it just hoping you win.

i don't really agree with the software for sniping though. i sorta see it like steroids in sports. obviously its not on the same level, but same idea

I always just place a bid equal to my highest amount I'll pay for the item and let it ride. Normally it works because I don't expect to get bargains, but a fair price, which 99% of the time is more than a sniper is willing to bid to.

I wish that was the case with Early Coppers, Colonials, and Pre-Federals.

I also keep in mind and bid only the highest amount that I am willing to pay, however, many times bidding early can cause artificial increases in bidding [by pigeons and fish]
