So I head over to a local bank to see if they have any 2010 rolls of shields cents. They don't, and in fact they haven't even seen one yet. I got one in change yesterday from somewhere and showed them. I explain I collect coins. Anyway, I ask if they have any Kennedys or Ikes. She does and I buy the roll of Kennedys. Then it gets good! The teller tells me she actually has a bag of silver she is taking to the jeweler to sell for scrap. I tell her I will buy it all from her for $5 a half and $1 a dime, and $3 a quarter.

So I get the bag from her, and I check it out, and wowsers! I was expecting all 64 kennedys and roosevelt dimes. The bag contained 50 mercury dimes in AU/UNC condition, 10 AU/UNC 64 Kennedys , 5 XF/AU Walkers and 3 1954 AU Franklins! So of course, I bought them all for the price I mentioned earlier. I havent had a chance to look at dates and mint marks on the dimes yet, as it was lunch and I had to get back to work.

Its all coming up Greg today!

Just by chance, I was at one of my regular dealers this afternoon, and he has 2 rolls, 2010 P&D Shields, $8 per.

to much to pay for those, i unfortunantly had to pay $3 for the ones i got but $8 is rediculous. hold out or check more banks, i was in the same boat.

I don't buy rolls anyway. But I do keep my eyes open when I'm coin shopping for people I know do. Besides, the shield penny will be in the proof and mint sets this year.

  6. Greg,

Nice find at the bank. You probably paid her more than the "jeweler" would but still a good deal on your part. What were the dates on the Mercury dimes and Walkers? TC

I took a glance at them at my desk.

    Walkers 42's, 45, 46's

The mercs are 1929-1942 some with mint marks.

Also, she said she has been collecting Ike dollars, and she would sell me her whole collection for face value. Do you agree thats thats a good buy since I have nothing to lose? She has no idea that there may be a good type in the 72's im sure. She has 340 of them.

That is a good price. All of the dealers and coin shops I do business with have bags of 100 Ikes for $30 - $45 over face.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that. The coin shop by my house won't even buy Ikes for face value, he turns them away.

  11. I would buy all the Ikes you can at face value...no risk at all. TC

Ikes never get any love it seems! Where I live, it's hard to find them in shops because most won't carry them. Quite frustrating.

yea, my bank people are mean! i would love to try roll searching, but they probably would come up with some excuse.

i think i have a better chance at winning the lottery then i would, to have a teller offer me that stuff! and i don't play the lottery!
