Then I'd go along with 67.

My guess is that squiggly line by the "RU" is (or was) a dust particle. If I am correct, I do not think you will have any problems getting a 68 on you coin and maybe a 69.

A 69 would be silly expensive I'm guessing?

What am I missing? This is a DDO. There should be no doubling on the reverse - either coin.

At least it is not in my budget, but then there are a lot of coins in that category.

Again, take this with a grain of my no-experience salt, but given the drastic difference in price between those two levels wouldn't the TPG err on the side of caution with this one? I've heard that unless there is zero question about it, they will not assign the higher grade when the price difference is that high.

Well considering he payed 35 dollars in '95, and as far as I can tell numismedia has it at 3,130.00 in AU58.. It's a little out of my price range too.
    I can't imagine an MS69RD price..

There's a disconnect somewhere there. Maybe $15 bucks on an AU58.

I do not know what you are looking at. It says $17.25 in AU58 and $3130 in 69 on my version of Numismedia. FWIW, I paid $50 for my NTC 69 (I figure is about a 66).

I wouldn't expect it either except there appears to be doubling on the Jallengomez example. Now it could always be the photo or it could be another form of doubling on that particular coin. I have been known to 'see' more than is there.

I don't know and thus the question rather than a statement. First, does anybody else see the doubling I'm talking about and second, is there enough there to indicate a second identifiable reverse pairing or a DD Obverse with a mechanical doubling reverse?

My guess was that this coin could grade a 68. I don't have access to certified price guides, but IIRC, the big jump in price is from 67 to 68. I was thinking of having a friend submit this coin for me to NGC if enough here thought it had a chance at 68.

    I wasn't thinking 69, I think it's either a 67 or a 68. I just wanted more opinions from people that I respect before deciding.

FWIW, I also wanted to practice my improving photo skills.

The only thing I might construe as doubling on jallengomez's is the bottom on the "O". Without the equivalent doubling on the top, that has to be machine doubling. That is not from a doubled die and, thus, could appear on any coin at any time.

That photo BTW is of one from the PCGS site that they graded a 68. As for doubling, I don't see anything on the reverse and according to Coneca there were two different reverses associated with this variety, but to my knowledge neither of them was doubled.

Looks clean enough for a 67 or 68 grade. I'll go with 67.

Everything I have seen/heard here is that the keys get a bump in the grade. One of us has to be wrong.

that's what scares me. You, me, Charmy and Doug all (if pressed for a grade) think 67. rlm thinks 68. Is it worth giving a try?

Is the difference in price big enough between 67 and 68 to play the "crack-out game" with my raw coin?

    Probably me!

PCGS price guide puts real money at 69 with 67@$120 and 68@190. 69 gets you $5000. I'd go for it.

What do you pay for grading? If it is $20 (shipping included), I would give it a try. If you are going through a dealer or paying shipping both ways for a single coin, probably not. I will let you draw the line in the middle.

BTW, what do you think it grades? You have it in hand.
