Those notes are not real. Those are BEP reprints. No mention of that tho. See http://cgi.ebay.com.my/Proof-Print-BEP-1899-5-Silver-Certificate-/220512777076
Vess: It is 'real' in that it was printed by the BEP from original master dies and is indeed a 'replica' as you mentioned. It's most likely an ANA Souvenir Card from a past convention, like the one I attached to this post. They're very easy to come by in excellent condition. They are perhaps the best way for most collectors to own one of these notes... Value wise, you can find them for about $9.99 to $40 listed regularly on eBay and other websites related to paper money, stocks and bond vignette collectibles. This one is also pictured in the auction and is a replica 1896 $5 Silver Cet for the 1980 ANA convention. In paper alone, at the face value, the current bid is almost met by just tallying up those straps of cash...
Subtract about 20 pounds for all the holders . I can see it going for about 3 times face value or $ 7,500. There is nothing of much value that I can see. I am sure if there were valuable items in that lot they would have been pulled and sold separately . Just another typical grab bag type of auction .
I don't see it going over $11K. It just seems like a lot of modern coinage and paper money with some old stuff thrown in to make you want it.
saw the first. not the 2nd. was more suprised by the amount of 10$ auctions surrounding the 10K auctions. sort of proof that this guy deals in nothing but junk.
This is another one that does the same kind of thing on a regular basis: http://cgi.ebay.ca/US-Father-and-So...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item20b0e83b0f
anyone notice the ".9999 fine copper bullion bars"? I will say, regardless of the limited value, they are cool looking and would make a nice little door stop or a prop on the bookshelf. Laimbeer4452
I never cease to be amazed at how people can throw how many of thousdands of dollars towards a crap shoot. "Gonna get rich someday..." I guess that's why we're still around and the monkeys are in the zoos.
Frankly, it was already overpriced this morning when it was under $6500. A lot of fluff in that auction with a few interesting items seeded into the pictures to imply a higher value in the hidden items. For example a box of certified coins is shown but only 2 of the coins - a 1963 half and a 1964 dime. What are the odds the rest are low cost modern change or sample slabs? A lot of after market junk merchandise included.
Its funny how in all his large "estate auctions" they have the same type of bank bag of unsearched coins. I would think someone who was going to spend 10k+ on anything coin related, would want to see it in person. But I'm strange that way.
How about $11,211.00.... the exact same price he got when he sold the exact same collection back on March 31: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250603664657
Thats what I was thinking too. Throw a half dozen decent show pieces into a load of otherwise unwanted and worthless junk and you can sell 120 lbs of stuff worth maybe $800 for 10K on Ebay. I guess if you plan on opening a novelty tourist shop in Niagara Falls, then this lot would be worth the price. Guy~
No detailed inventory list? You'd have to be :goofer: to bid on that. All I see is mostly junk, the stuff my dealer tosses into the bargain bin.
lol Well, there's your answer folks. This batch already sold once. I just can't believe there's this many bids, at this dollar amount. You often see excellent condition, complete sets end without a bid. Those you actually know what you're getting.
I'm not defending this auction at all. I think the seller is ridiculous! But before the witch hunt stars, there is no detailed list of either auction and the pics are not the same.
