The U.S.Mint is offering new product sets of the America the Beautiful (AtB) quarters: http://www.coinnews.net/2010/05/14/us-mint-offers-three-new-america-the-beautiful-quarters-sets/ They may be trying to spark some interest in this series. Of course, a nice doubled die would do the same. This move seems to run counter to their objective to trim the number of product offerings. TC
Oh my goodness gracious! You can now "buy" a set of Unc "Business strkes"? The mint is very, very clever. I really have to take my hat off. I'm wondering when they're going to show up at the local flea market or perhaps they'll just roll into town with the circus people......
All three sets sound like The Mint is setting a new precedence for gouging the public. I'll wait to buy the complete unc & proof sets. As for the America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set, why pay $10 for what you can get for $2.50 from a bank?
If they really wanted to spark "interest" in the series, they would work with the Federal Reserve and insure that member banks receive these coins on or around the release date.
In a nutshell.................they may not be available at your bank. But then you won't know this until it's too late and the $10 premium would then look like a gift.
You are correct...circulation/distribution is key. I think what got the masses into the state quarters was the fact they they could find them easily in pocket change. I was only hoping to find an error. :rolling: TC
