I found the final coin that I had been searching for so I now have a full set of Buffalo Proofs slabbed by PCGS. Todd finished taking photos for me (thanks as always, Todd, for the great images). They are set out below in two posts and invite any comments or thoughts. Which one do you like best? I would still like to upgrade the 1916 so they are all the same grade but that may take some time and patience. And if I see another I really like, I'll still be tempted to start another set.
Here are the remaining four. I started collecting these about three years ago and have bought and sold a few along the way and had a lot of fun doing it. The 1936 Satin: The 36 Brilliant: And the 1937:
That set is awesome......I'm not worthy. That 1914 is a stunning coin. Congrats on accumulating this proof set in such a high format. Definite eye-candy Edit: as my Grand-son would say, "Holy Shnikie"
So do you have that in the Registry? I'd assume that would be a top one!! You'd think a set of only 8 coins would be easy but then you go and make it all 67s with one 66!! Just so nice.
Nice - but you need to replace the 36. It needs to have some golden toning like the others. Those are some very nice coins. Great set of coins.
Gorgeous coins. That is what a Buffalo is supposed to look like. I guess I am the only one here that is thick. The "(well, sort of)" implies to me that you are missing something. What are you missing?
I think he was implying that the 66 needs to be a 67. That was my impression. I had to go look to find out how few coins there were in the set.
Breakdown, That is a stunning set of coins. My favorite is the 1913 T2. I am a sucker for lilac & lemon toning. Now I have a question for you. If you could upgrade one of your coins by picking one from the Forsythe collection, which coin would you pick? Congrats on completing a phenomenal set. If it is any consolation, I too understand how it feels to have a high ranking registry set only to be blown away by the guy in 1st place. You have Forsythe, I have Bressler. Paul
Wow! Wish I could buy you a beer just for the priviledge of viewing this thread! Bad a$$. This is one for the archives!
Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. As RLM said, I am Number 4 on the PCGS registry set and don't expect to get any higher as all three collectors above me have at least one 68 and Gerald Forsythe has multiple 69's (each of which is one of a kind but to answer Paul's question, I'd take his 16). Mr. Forsythe happens to be Number 1 in the other sets I collect, namely MS Walkers and MS Buffalos so Paul, I have to look up at him in all three sets! And that's okay - the photos of his sets that are available look pretty amazing. My favorites in my set are the two 1913's. And yes, I plan to keep an eye out for a nicer 1916.
