Well, I just re found it. I had put it into a roll of Proof coins years ago. What's your opinion of this strike. And the possible grade?
The photos aren't lying. It is highly reflective. Also has some of the squarest rims I have ever seen on a Philly.
It’s an outstanding strike but there’s just too much reflectivity rather than “mirror” (...or as one might say, it’s a “bouncy” one). Very outstanding high gem. There’s way too much action in that surface for a PL, which is a dead surface, essentially. And MS examples can be that well-struck (duh, that’s no “tell,” either way).
Well that would be a mirrored surface. Which still has plenty of luster.. I agree that the fields don't show much, well any polishing lines and they aren't reflective, So right you are. 86 and 88 are some of my favorite years of the early Zlincolns. I haven't seen any of them with as smooth of fields as this one. Even the high grade MS68 and MS69 in 88 don't have the same luster.
What's "mirrored" but "dead." It's not bouncy, lively, but just sitting there looking back at you. There's no cartwheeling, no action, no movement, no signs of life in a PR or PL. They're dead as opposed to lively surfaces, is what I mean. And this one's a very lively surface, ergo, it's not PL.
