I am guessing you guys will say it is normal, but i cannot not find one to compare to check, so I will ask...

    The 1978 D Quarter

Is the D supposed to be solid and filled in?

Or is it supposed to have the hole in the middle?

    Thanks for humoring me :)

It is supposed to look like a "D" (not filled)

The "D" should be open; however, with a large amount of wear, the "D" could look as though it's filled in.

How worn is the coin? Mint marks are often high points that get early wear.

    Evorlor-
Welcome to Coin Talk. Though the "D" is supposed to look normal, they do sometimes get filled in due to die chips or just post-mint damage. Hard to tell without a photo what caused it.

Please scan a picture so we can see it. If it's filled in and not from normal wear, it's possible it was artificially filled in.

By no means is it uncirculated, but the quarter is in good condition. I am way too much of an amateur to publicly try to grade it though :)

Well, your image is too small in this one, but the other image of the entire quarter, it looks like it could be normal wear that filled it in, or as Jallen stated a die chip caused it.

    I'm going with normal wear.

If you can, try uploading the image to photobucket.com, you have create a free acount to do that, but it might help with the size of the image.
