I have been finding these in eBay rolls lately.

I included a photo of a normal one beside one of the copper looking ones to prove I am not playing with the lighting.

The first one in the flip has a strange reverse too, there is weird markings between the wheat stalks and the rim. I'll post closer pictures if needed but there looks like small letters there.

Its in great shape. I remember when I found my 1st one, I was beside myself. I didn't think of using a magnet on it. I was disappointed and embarrassed at myself. Live and learn...

I seen a few that most of the zinc had worn off and rusted to have the look of copper.
but copper coated on ebay no surprise they have a lot there

Thats what you call a "gimmick".they insert them in rolls, and when you find it,you may not know how to test it,so you buy more rolls,in hopes you get another, not knowing its a DUD....and chances are your bidding is a little higher on the second roll.then you start fighting with other bidders.

Here's a few shots of the coin in the first picture. It has some strange markings on the reverse between the wheat stalks and the rim.

Ya, the last thing that I would do is buy rolls of coins from ebay. Doesn't anyone ever stop to contemplate the probability of people having so many "unsearched" rolls that just happen to have the back of a VDB penny on the end? It's mindboggling.

There's no such thing as an Unsearched Roll on eBay .. that's my attitude.

I still buy them when the price is worth the risk and I have found some pretty good keepers or I wouldn't buy them at all.

I even branched out and bought one roll for 35 bucks , which is way above what I usually spend on one thinking the coins would be untouched only to find a few that were obviously cleaned in the precise area where a Proof Mark would be. And this was in an OBW roll.

I have had better luck with the 5- 10 dollar rolls then any other.

On another note, I have noticed some sellers are sending the rolls I purchased from a state that isn't the Home State that they have listed on their listings. I'm wondering if there isn't some coin nepatism going on here due to unsatisfied customers.

I hope that I didn't come across as though I was belittling you in any way, that wasn't my intention. As long as you don't trust the "unsearched" descriptions on ebay, then at least you know what your getting into to.

I remember a time when I saw a guy that kept listing something like "unsearched wheat cent rolls, vdb reverse on end" along with a picture of a worn out penny roll with the wrapper pulled down to see the VDB. And of course, in the description he's saying "could it be an S mint, blah, blah"

He had a bunch of them listed and they were selling for $20-$30 or more each. I clicked on the guys feedback and looked through his recent purchases. Within the last few months he had purchased a bag of 30's-50's wheat cents and a half roll of 1909 VDB pennies. Needless to say, he was making out like a bandit.

I don't buy rolls from Ebay looking for top of the pops, nor do I buy them looking for key dates. I do purchase them in search of varieties, and I've been quite successful doing that.

i was given over 200 rolls of lincoln cents(09-58). i have a nearly completed set, probably need 1-2 key dates(already have the s-vdb and 09 s, as well as the p-vdb) and 3 commons. i still have over 30 rolls! i was going to sell them on ebay, but figured people would think they were searched, or get mad if they don't get anything good. most rolls have had some good stuff, but a few were all common dates.

i will probably just keep the keys and dump the commons in the copper jar.

I know of a few that have some real good rolls they sell, but very few.

I won't even tell anyone who they are for two reasons, First, I want them to myself ..LOL and Second, I don't want anyone trying to accuse me of pushing a seller on here.

The funny marks between the wheat ears and the rim are actually pits created by rust and then plated over.

    Have Fun,
