Figured I'd share a link to the story. You can now get gold when you feel the urge from vending machines in the UAE. Saw before about them in Germany and how much you get ripped overpaying market rate. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100513/od_afp/uaegoldoffbeat_20100513120103
I started a thread with the BBC's video spot of the ATM machine in use a short while ago, have a look: Gold ATM
LOL! It's all over the news today now that the mainstream media and TV business news have picked up on it. :thumb:
I think I'd actually like to see the coin in hand before I put $1200 into a vending machine. Unless you just like bullion and could care less wheat kind of condition it's in, I doubt many collectors will be lining up at these. Guy~
I would think these things would be a magnet for would be thieves. I sure wouldn't want to buy gold while standing at a vending machine, and I know if I was a criminal in that area, this is exactly where I would be planning my next 'job'.
There's a sportsmen club I know of that has just that. The soda machine was converted into beer vending. People that have never seen it wonder why a 12oz pepsi costs a dollar.
In Japan, on the streets, there are beer vending machines (500¥?). I still recall the beer vending machines in the China Lake NWC BOQ (75¢?) amounts listed to make my response coin related :mouth:
Indeed the do, and the Japanese have vending machines for many more products beyond cold drinks... This is an interesting book that just came out: Christopher Salyers Mark Batty Publisher ISBN: 0981960014
I just assumed they were everywhere, but here, especially in the airport, there are vending machines that sell everything from movies for $15 to Ipods for $300 and more. I guess gold is just one more street corner gimmick to follow. Guy~
