Timing is everything. During the volcano outbreak a few days ago, there was less than normal bidding for the Heritage auction on European coins. Since many of the large bidders were stuck in Europe, this was a good time to pick up many European coins.

With the new requirement for California state taxes (8.25%) to be added to Californians even to purchases of auctions held outside the state, I expect fewer bidders from California.

Now is not a good time to be bidding on gold coins, for obvious reasons.

Is that an off-metal strike, or just really dark toning?

The web address is www.HA.com. I suspect anything else I might add would be taken as advertising and edited, but we do have world coin auctions every month over the Internet and three times a year as floor auctions. I don't immediately see anything like that coming up (no shillings of any kind, in fact), but that doesn't mean that one won't eventually show.

My original post, in case anyone who didn't see it, was words to the effect of:

"MBT, You are way out of line insinuating anything else. Way out of line."

Again, I didn't see that the OP had asked the question, and to be frank, you have a record taking cheap shots at Heritage and others. That said, I was wrong to type what I did, so I deleted it. You can think what you want, but I am not trying to fool anyone.

This is not the only thread he has been out of line in recently. What happened MBT, did PCGS kick you off their forum? Is that how you found your way here?

That happened a long time ago.

Yeah, but there is nothing wrong with reminding him of what can happen when you get out of line on a forum.

BTW, to the OP, I have been getting outbid, and outbid badly in the recent Heritage auctions. Have you considered that the higher prices are simply a reflection of an improving economy rather than something sinister?

If it's not shill bidding, then it sounds like the time to be selling!

Okay - and me too. There were a couple of auctions where I decided - OOHHH I want that coin. So I bid THINKING this will win the coin. Once I was out bid - on a couple I went back again and bid(despite my better judgement). I'll be darned I still lost. Just getting pictures ready for the only coin I did win. I am waiting for some of the ones I lost to appear on ebay at a 20% mark up - which I have seen happen before. So I am off to post my new booby head.

I should not have made the shill reference. You are probably correct. Honestly HA are really service orientated and I have won some great coins there.

You are full of baloney--I actually praised Heritage and you are taking cheap shots at me.

Mr. Moderator--this poster is violating the forum rules and should be admonished severely.

No way my friend. I already know which dime I want and it is in the Boston Sale in July. Hardly any Jeffersons that I need ever show up in the signature sales these days. That might be why I am getting outbid.

    Mike,

I just noticed something. If he got outbid on Tuesday, it would have to be an internet only auction that he is referring to, not a signature sale with floor bidding.

Good point. The (modified) point still stands -- perhaps he's getting a better eye and as a result is going up against collectors who have deeper pockets. :)

Well to the OP I also have been getting my rear end handed to me in recent auctions from Heritage. I cant' figure it out either, maybe with high PM's people are starting to look at rare coins again.
