1961 Penny Probably Nothing

    The 61 Penny in the middle caught my eye. Something about the strike of it. The date seems heavier then others next to it. It's probably nothing. Pennies are not my forate so figured, why not share.

    Just a typical 60's strike.

    the older ones were definitely struck deeper. look at a 2000's penny as well as a quarter compared to a 60's one. The older ones look more sculpted. Newer ones - are completely flat, no longer 3-d.

    I've noticed the same thing with nickels. I can tell a pre-1995 nickel and a post-1995 apart (most of the time, there are exceptions) just by looking at the obverse. I guess they think less pressure will result in less stress which yields less broken dies and saves money. :)
