Nope - Snaz did. :) BUT Charmy has the discovery coin. And I think we should name it the mis-placed (necklace) bead. :)

Ohhh! Sorry, I thought you were talking about the lower lip which sort of looks swollen on this coin. The dot you mentioned could be like the dot you sometimes see when they test a die with a tiny punch which causes an indentation on the die and thus a raised dot on the planchet, or it could simply be from a small defect in the die. A dot like this actually is one of the diagnostics you'll see on the cheek of the Indian in an 1869/69 S-3 overdate like this one.

We'll just call it the misplaced necklace bead here on cointalk. :p
kidding, but in all seriousness. That's really cool, I've never heard of that being done before. Very cool, thanks for the education.
Now, mind if I ask what they were testing for?
It'd be nice to find a coin that had been tested like that, and it had diecracks coming off the sample dimple as seen on these two coins.

Dem, sure some perty pennies. Charm, I met Blue at the MSNS show. What a nice guy. Glad things are working out well for him with his photography.

Jim, thank you, and that motto under your signature sure amused me!

Snaz, it is my understanding it was to test how strong or firm the die metal was, but I'm not sure where I got that info. It's also possible the dot could be simply from a die chip - I don't think we know for sure.

I really enjoyed reading this thread and looking at the coins. Being a novice, I did take the time to go the the Numismedia Glossary, simply to verify if there was a separate designation for "Cent" and "Penny". That source defines "Penny" as synonomous with a one cent US Coin.

Nothing is so embarassing as to aver something which is shown to be incorrect. IMHO

As always more gorgeous coins. Congrats Charmy.

And as for the pennies..apparently alot more people agree with using the term. LOL

Does the coin read "penny" or "cent"? Nuff said! I rest my case as you will not find a US mint product with the word "penny" on it.

You would think that people would have more sense (pun intended).

And you'll not find a coin from the U.S. Mint with the word "nickel" on it either, so should we also avoid that term?

Absolutely, you are a total novice for not calling them five cent pieces, alternativly 2/5ths bit would also be acceptable around here.

Major, whether it is used by the mint or not, I'm really sorry you are so offended by our use of the term "penny" instead of "cent" but it is a perfectly acceptable term and one everyone in the U.S. will continue to use no matter how you feel.

Seriously, I am sad for you that you choose to spend/waste your time arguing about such a trivial issue. Perhaps you should put your excessively meticulous opinions to better use on more important subjects where they might be appreciated. I think this horse has already been beat to death and you need to move on.

LOL.... This post was funny and I just must add that Charmy, your pennies are beautiful and you have knowledge compare to others who obviously don't know about you.

    PENNIES & TONING RULE!

    P.S. Happy late mothers day!

Is there any cure or medication for "JAZZitis". It seems to be spreading around here.
