I'm new to searching rolls and have a basic question. If I ask my bank to exchange for a box of half dollars, does it cost them anything to order it from the Fed (or from whomever they actually obtain it)? Or do they get them for face value? I have no problem with promising not to redeposit the halves at the same bank. But if it costs the bank a fee to order them, I'm sure they won't do it for me.

Searched another box of halves. This one was a shutout. I got a box of nickels to go through today, I don't ususally do nickels, so hopefully I'll find some goodies.

It could depend on your bank. But I would think money is money, well besides weight. If you asked for 100 100$ bills to search through would they not let you? As for me, I get my boxes of coins through work when they order coins from the brinks security armored trucks, I just ask in advance and they tell me when the coin man drops them off for me. And if your a Costco member talk to a supervisor or manager and they can do the same for you, we love to please our members!

I averaged 1 Wheat for every 5 rolls, so you did good.

now I've gone through 39 rolls and I have 61 rolls I haven't been through yet and out of those 39 rolls I've been through so far, I've found 4 wheats, all of which were found within the first 10 rolls I opened, the last 19 rolls I've searched so far haven't had any wheats in them, we'll see how many wheats are in the rest of the box, which I have a feeling I'll find an average of 2 wheats for each set of ten rolls since the first set of 10 rolls I found 4 and the second set of 10 rolls, I found none, so I'm guessing I'll find a total of 10 wheats in this box of 50 rolls.

As soon as they dry up completely, the bottom will fall out. Nobody wants to start collecting what cannot be found. At least that's what happened with the IHC, Buffalo and Washington 25c Silver, in my lifetime, anyway.

Yeah, boxes have not been yielding much at all. I did pick up 3 boxes this week and two of them were full of NASTY half dolalrs and no silver. Now some bad news for me. The teller that gave me the 8 has been calling me on average twice a week but yesterday was her last day. She is transfering to a bank on the north side of town. On top of that, she introduced me to the new guy replacing her and when she told him we collect silver halves, he said "Oh really, I do too." So much for getting anything out of that bank.

On Thursday of this week when I picked up one of my boxes, the lady that saved halves for me, brought me 6 90%er's from her house AND a few silver halves from her mom's house also told me this was her last week. I lost my two best tellers in 3 days!! UGH

    Nice find on that 39-D.

I searched a box of pennies and had a pretty good one. 11 wheat pennies, and one each 1998 wide am, 2000 wide am, 1960d small date.

I also found a bunch of canadian pennies, the oldest was 1940. Anyone have a link to a price guide for these?

Did someone let loose a bunch of 1961 D cents?

I've found around twenty 1961 d's that look practically uncirculated in a $25 box of cents. Has anyone else foticed these? I'm in the Wash DC area. Here is an example of what I've found...

You think someone somewhere on the east coast turned in their huge penny collection? I've also found a couple 1959s and random others from the 60s and early 70s.

Now I see why you guys enjoy this. $500 in halves yields 40%(3), 1978S, 2003D(2), 2008P, and 2008D

I'm not sure what's going on but I also have found a 1941 , 1944, 1945, 1948 and a plethora of 1950's all in B/U condition lately from bank boxes.

Sort of makes it all worth-while to find just one in the entire box too.

When I redeemed my last box the total redemption amount was 24.47. 53 were keepers. One was this 1941.. a few were 50s and 60s in B/U condition.. the rest were common wheats. But one thing I will say is there is alot more people using the coin redemption machines at my bank then before ( I've been doing this over two years and get boxes 2-3 times a week ) so it could be more people are cashing in their change stash jugs then ever before.
