In my case, one of my favorite world coins is the Hyderabad 1 Ashrafi (from India) AH 1343....(the mintage of the coin is still a mystery to me though...) I just luv the image of the Charminar in the obverse side of the coin~What is everyone else's favorite coin that they own?
Yes nice coin Mine would definetly be the Victoria "gothic" crown, but as it's quite expensive, I just have the florin : Q
The one on the left is Syrian ten pounds, I like it because of the lettering in the gate. The middle one is southeast asian I am assuming because of the lettering perhaps cambodian? Finally, on the right is a French Polynesian 5 Francs I think? I like it because it weighs 3.8 grams, made of tin, I don't know?
It is a 5 baht from Thailand, dated BE 2522 (1979 AD). I like the Syrian coin, ruins of Palmyra must be. In Krause, however, it doesn't have the CBS in the gate. That may be a later addition.
Thanks a bunch for clearing that up for me! Just another reason why I love this forum, so much knowledge to be gained!
well my favourite world coins are of course Ottoman coins from my own collection. Since there isnt much known here about Ottoman/Islamic coins, i decided to post 2 of my coins here. take a look and enjoy.
I collect Ottoman and other Islamic coins, just not many from Turkey per se. Here is my favorite Yemenese coin: Yemen, Mutawakkilite Kingdom 1/4 Imadi riyal AH 1359 Sa'na mint, 14 crescents obv
I like this coin. Segovia mint. It looked to have been coutermarked with an 8. Was this done to verify that it was not debased?
My dealer said that cipher "8" was made in the XVIIth century in Sweden. He said that this coin circulated in Sweden too. I don"t know nothing about it.
I can not say that this is my favorite coin but it is definitely in the top ten: I bought this coin because the image looked like a space alien from the movies. And not a nice one! Coin details: Coin: Byzantine Justinian (AD 527-565) AE Follis Obverse: Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right, D N IVSTINIANVS PP AVG Reverse: Large letter "M", Small star left, cross top and right, gamma under "M" Exergue: CON (Constantinople mint) Catalog: Sear 158 - Struck AD 527-538 - Size 30mm Of course, it is just wear on the coin
I only own one world coin. I love polar bears, they are my favorite animal. 1926 Greenland 1 Krone NGC MS63
Beautiful! I didn't even know Greenland even had a currency. I thought it was just a bunch of science outposts. Out of curiosity how much did that specimen cost you, if you don't mind my asking?
Gawd!! What a great question as I have more than one and to pick just one is really difficult, not just for me either. Well I've always liked this Phillipines Douglas MacArthur half dollar. I don't think I have a pic of Douglas alone so he is sitting here with two Phillipine dimes. I actually have another favorite but I'll wait till another time as I gotta take a nicer pic of it.
1934 5 RM with the centrally placed Potsdam church with the clean fields to each side, i think it is such a beautiful design
