On one of my recent trips to the bank, I asked the teller if she had any Half Dollars. She told me that she had one roll and handed me this: 2010 Mint Roll Kennedy Half Dollars I was really surprised to get a roll like this. I would think that the teller might think it was out of the ordinary as most rolls come in a tan wrapper. She didn't question it so she may have seen these rolls before, simply didn't care or didn't know about them. It's a Tails/Tails roll, so maybe the original owner didn't want them.... But, I'm certainly happy to get them (especially for $10)!
Aren't these sold on the US Mint website for a premium? If so, then I would guess that either someone didn't like their birthday gift or someone helped themselves to a family member's hoard.
I thought that half dollars were only being minted for proof and uncirculated sets. They probably could be sold on ebay for $20.
No, they are made in lower mintages for collectors as well. You can buy them for a premium from the mint.
Mint rolls I have seen this as well. Not 2010 but I did have a teller tell me she had $120 worth of halves if I wanted them. I took them and they were all US Mint rolls 2001-2007. You are right, someone paid markup for these and someone else turned them in to the bank. Erin
Sweet pickup on that mint roll. I would hang onto them as the mint is lowering the mintage of the halves every year it seems.
