as GD said earlier what you are saying is just theory there is no such thing as 100% protection from air
I don't see how it could possibly get a 65. Those affected areas are certainly more distracting than the few bag marks/dings that you can have and still get a 65. It most certainly deserves to have something just shy of "tainted" written in the comments. For those TPG's that still consider "luster" or "finish" in their grade, it might have been body-bagged by them. Granted, there are slabbed 65 coins with vertigris, but this coin has more than "spots". It has "areas" that are affected.
I just noticed your from Wisconsin. I would think anyone that close to Chicago would know better than to deal with HJB. Sort of like buying from Littleton. as GD said earlier what you are saying is just theory there is no such thing as 100% protection from air Mostly true but it is possible to get real close. For example if you took a already slabbed coin, sealed all edges with a plastic sealant, where would air get in? If you took any slab and placed in a vice edgewise and slowly put pressure on it, you would see the edges slowly opening. This is because those edges are not completely air tight, just pressed together. Not sure why TPGS's don't spend a few cents on some type of plastic sealant for all edges.
with as much as HJB has theres some deals to be found. at least they didnt slab the cent - they just have to sell it and good luck. i agree with giving slabs some sort of rubber seal around the plastic edges so theyd be more water proof/harder to tamper with.
Yes, but there's such a thing 99.999% protection.....which is close enough to 100% that it doesn't matter with respect to verdigris.
