    Copied from elsewhere.

I'd add any S mintmark (Proofs), 1987's (Proofs only?) and anything 2002 and later (Low mintages). Of course, you also should hold anything 1970 and earlier.

Yes, that is all silver total. Of the 969 I have found, 138 are 90% half dollars.

On another note, if anyone needs post 2001 half dollars, PM me and we can work out a trade as I have found A LOT of very nice ones lately. (no 2010's yet).

I bought a box of cents on monday and went through all but 6 rolls that day and was completely shut out. Not even a wheatie.

I just finished going through the last $3 worth and found:
    - a full 2009 set of both mint marks.
    - 2 wheats, '54-D, '46
    - an AU 1973-S which was the last hole in my book :)
    - and what I believe to be a 1988/reverse of 1989 error. I'm not 100% sure, but it would be the first error I've found.

I went through my first box of halfs last night and it was a shutout in terms of silver. I did find a 2000s proof and a 2008 d. How do you tell if a proof is silver or note, am I correct in thinking the silver proofs will not have the clad edge?

Yes, beef, if you see a clad edge, it is most definitely not silver. If you can't tell, you can weigh it or flip it in the air and listen for the distinctive silver ring.

Opened a box of halves last night and found 8 40%ers.

Interesting, I gave a statistical report after opening my first 100 boxes and was at 50% of boxes with silver. Then, as many of you know, I had a shutout streak of 13 agonizing boxes in a row. But, of the 30 boxes I've opened since the 100th box, I've found silver in 14. Meaning that minus the 13 shutouts in a row, I've found silver in 14 out of 17 boxes. It is crazy how things seem to even out. :)

What do you plan to do with all your silver? Just hold on to it forever or are you gonna sell? In my first 9 boxes I got 127 pieces of silver, which I sold for $250. (250-63.50 = profit of $186.50) Now, I want to accumulate 1000 pieces and wait for silver to go over $20, then sell for a handsome profit.

I keep some and I sell some.

I'm not Bobbeth, but I have found 630 silver halves (428 90%, most (about 75% of the 90%) from one day).

I have sold most of it, and am keeping some (3 rolls of frankies + singles in albums, non-duplicate walkers, Stone Mountain, etc). I plan on using the funds (and have used about 1/2 of it already) to fund the rest of my collection. I like modern comm. (easy to collect, and in many cases can be bought for less that a common date BU morgan) and am working on a circulated peace dollar set, but am not willing to rush and overpay for it.

Went through 100$ in dimes and 40$ in nickels yesterday, got a '46 for the dimes and a 45S for the nickels, plus a 52S nickel that we needed for the album.

Selling 127 silver halves for 250$ sounds too low in the recent market, I have never sold even 40% for less than 2.1 each at a coin show (my local coin shop will give less). Try a coin show to increase your profits :secret:.

Yeah, I knew it was too low, but I sold to a buddy of mine. I was happy with the profit. Have you ever used Kitco to sell to? Is there a catch to using kitco? They pay about 85% of spot, right? Thanks for the response.

First, I would like to thank you all for your interesting and informative posts regarding roll searching and related statistics.

All of these posts about silver halves inspired me find a bank that would order them for me. When I found a bank that was helpful, they made me buy $300 worth of customer rolled halves, before they would order more. The $300 was already searched so I found nothing to keep. I opened one $500 box and found nothing interesting except a 2006D. I still have one box unopened and I am picking up two more tonight. So far, it has not been as much fun as I thought it might be. The biggest problem is that I don't have a place to dump them yet, so it limits how many I can order. Also, if I was a fan of JFK I might consider putting together a set, but I am not. I have had more fun searching cents and nickles and will probably stick with them for now.

    I have never used them.

There was a post earlier in the thread (I think) regarding selling to APMEX.

Box of nickels found 2 wars. Been trying to locate some half dollar rolls, but haven't found any. Tellers won't even look in the vault, they just say they don't have any.

I have a boatload of those 70's series cents. my basic collection runs from 1857 to 1979, 2009 & 2010 and beyond so as I go through the boxes of cents I pull out these until I get to where I can find the books I need to cover the latter dates. When I do I'll have another boatload of 1920 - 1970 cents to sell, I'll post them here (if that's ok) to offer them to you guys first if there is any interest.

Grabbed 2 boxes of nickels for some sorting tonight. Also grabbed a box of pennies just for fun. Ended up getting a box of new 2010-D Shields.
