You only smile when you sell. Or welcome someone into the store.

My point exactly! The entire show focuses on the pawn shop buying items from people off the street. There is no coverage of them selling items.

My guess is they don't want to scare off a chunk of their potential suppliers by seeing how much profit they really make.

True, but most people who go to the Pawn shops don't want to pay the vig at the payday centers, or really need to sell the item. We have it really, really bad here in Vegas for a few years now. Highest unemployment rate and foreclosure rate in the US. I mean there are people whose unemployment checks have run out, with no where to turn. They will always have sellers and since people come here expecting bargains at Pawn Shops, a good number of buyers.

    It's a good business IMO

Nobody knows how these guys were before the show. This is TV. You need a straight guy-Rick. You need the grumpy boss (like Fred Sanford or Mr. Mooney)-the old man, and you need the two dopes (like Lenny and Squiggy)-Big Hoss and Chumley. If Chumley was just a regular employee, he would have been fired a long time ago. If I worked for a place that had a Chumley working there, I would raise all sorts of you-know-what, accusing the owners of favoritism and wondering why they would allow such a lazy creep to work without getting some sort of reprimand for the things he does to disrupt the place.

I agree with that they likely are performing when on TV. I was thinking about getting down there in the next week or so and taking a coin ? Maybe I should call them first ?

Exactamundo! Listen to Pilkenton. It's a TV SHOW. It's supposed to be entertaining. You need Chumley being lazy, Big Hoss pretending he's Brad Pitt, Rick grinning like a cheshire cat, and the old man being a stick in the mud.

The "old man" is a nickname of respect in the Navy. No matter how old the Ship Captin, he could be 70, he could be 45, he's called "The Old man". It's a term of endearment and respect.

    LOL, Yeah, sure !

The only problem I see is the OLD MAN has been discharged. LOL
