I came acrosse this in pocket change, and was wondering what this would grade and looks like it has the full steps if that matters. Also the D looks like a slight impression next to it. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
That looks like a nice bright red AU. Its worth a cent. Full steps is only for Jefferson nickels. There are no strike designations for the Lincoln, although yours does appear well struck.
Oh, I didn't know that only applied to Jefferson nickels, I'm sure learning alot here, thank you so much !
I would like to know why only AU..From the limited picture size,I can see that it's still struck very well (meaning that there is limited wear on it), I cant see many nicks and dings and it still have a lot of luster/shine to it. Granted it still worth one cent. -Shrek
Shoe, its AU because its circulated. The discoloration on the high points of his cheek is indicative of wear - hence, AU. Now, if this were a classic coin such as a CBH and it were submitted to a TPG with a little bit of discoloration on the high points, it would almost certainly be graded MS-64. But many of us would call this a technical AU-64 (a made up grade). This is a coin with minimal wear on the high points, but otherwise is a very nice coin.
