I always wait till I get paid before I ship. This guy won one yesterday, paid right away, and I shipped it this morning. Later today he won again. I don't think he knew I already shipped the first one. I'm trying to make some extra money here, because I'm laid off. Should I ship the day before's win the next day? Should I ship daily, or wait a week and send them all together?

Just tell him the truth, that you ship same day.

Insert into your auctions you will only combine shipping for items won the same day. Even then you have to watch your weight limits on postage. That prevents buyers from waiting a week or more to find something else you're selling, and you are having to keep track of them. Buyers have no clue if they have never had multiple auctions going on, with 5-10 closing a day.

You could tell bidders that you can combine items up to a specified number when won within a specified time as was said "same day, same week", etc, but not to make payment until an invoice is received. I read this on a seller's instructions, but darned if I can remember the item to look it up. Anyway, then state payment has to be received within "x" days of invoice. This is good if you are losing money or breaking even on shipping. If you can ship another coin for 50 cents more, tell them each additional item is 75 cents. Might help.

I have only sold a very few coins, and lost on the shipping on every one. Still working on figuring it out.

    Good luck.

    "Combined Payment" & "Combined Shipping"

Explore your seller account preferences INSIDE & OUT !!
Specifically "Combined Payment" & "Combined Shipping".
If you know that an item or combination of items could be sold to one person within a 3 day period AND you know that their combined weight could go over 13 ounces but under 70lbs , then you need to make sure to set you default shipping and handling at not less than $4.95 for flat rate priority mail. You can always set your own checkout preferences to allow the buyer to edit the checkout amount.

I had a customer ask me to offer combined shipping and it ended up cost him more , since I was only charging 2.00 for S&H for each item , but when he forced me to combine shipping on the 2 items , it caused the weight to go over the 13 ounce limit so I was forced to ship via flat rate priority at a cost of $4.75.

    Love this learning experience.

It is an education for sure. About like getting your very first computer after you retire. Without background basics or anyone to learn from, it can get to be both frustrating and satisfying. Every mistake I make, I make at least twice, just to be sure I have it down. LOL I am a real pro at messing it up. eBay is the same thing. Maybe we are fortunate that we already have our inventory ? The losses hurt less.

Here's another stupid question. Does it cost more to ship to another country from the United States? I'm not talking about anything big. Something like a dime. Can I just put a stamp on it and put it in the mailbox? What about shipping from the continental U.S. to Hawaii or Alaska?

Just this week I started two ebay auctions in stuff that I have very little invested in and very little want to keep around. Now because of that, i kept the listings under $1.00 and only put in the minimum amount of photos, etc. Both listings cost me a combined .50, thats not too bad, and with the price I paid and the bids already there (they end tonight) I might even make a little bit of money. Who knows? But I thought I'd give it a try and see what happened. If I make out ok, maybe instead of dropping off items for trade or BV at my local dealer, I can make a few bucks more for not too much of a hassle.

A dime rides for $.44 to Alaska and Hawaii. A letter to Canada is more. If you ship packages to Canada you need to fill out a customs declaration. Plus Canadian mail moves very slowly (to many friggin unions..TRUE). You're apparently selling inexpensive stuff, put into your ebay ad, US only...

I was auctioning a well-worn Mercury dime today. This morning, the bid was 4.29 + .50 S&H. I thought that was great. With 44 minutes to go, I went for my daily walk. When I got back, my dime sold for 8.05 + .50!!!!!!!!!!! Where else can you do do that? What would you dealers here buy one beat up Mercury dime for if I came into your shop. So far, ebay has done good for me. I haven't sold anything expensive yet. I'm kind of leery to do that yet. But this cheap stuff seems to sell rather well.

Ebay is great. People like *****ing about ebay. Where else can you reach a huge, worldwide audience. be guaranteed payment (that's what PP is for), and only pay 12%? Rhetorical question.

My thoughts too. I'll pay 12% instead of the overhead and my time at a show or taking a major hit selling to a dealer.

$8.50 for a worn out dime...I'd hope it was a semi key at least..

I'm not a dime guy, so I had to look. Yep, it's a 26-S. I didn't know it was a key date, but I do know that I bought it off ebay and I never pay more than a buck-fifty for any dime. I'm a junk silver guy and it was in my bag. I just reached in and grabbed it. I guess me and the buyer both got what we wanted. It's a win-win situation. I'm happy.

That's what this hobby is supposed to be about. Win-win situations, where everyone gets a fair shake.

Man, I was getting ready to put up an AU 1945 micro S until I learned that ! LOL
