1964 D WQ Looks like an over strike of te Q U A? R ?? I have never seen one, and found this searching for type C s. Thanks
Is this a scan? There is way too much glare to see. Try to get a pic of just the area and then crop it.
There is an DDR for the 64 D but you may want to check "America" closer. "Quarter" is more faint. But as Mad said, alot of MD on the year stated.
Cool ! Now at least I can say I found something ! I have looked at WQ's until my eyes went buggy looking for the type C's. Found a couple that sure matched the 65 I was comparing them to, but one of them turned out to be a 1963. Guess it was a strong strike ? Do the FS catalog numbers mean anything or are they just for show ? I have the variety list, but not the Volume II book. Start on dimes next month. LOL Thanks a lot guys
I found a DDR I think. I checked the AMERICA again and there is doubling there, the OF and M E R C and possibly the A. I think in the Cherrypickers guide it is variety FS 25-1964D-801 ? I have the current varieties list, but have not gotten Vol II yet. I have never seen one before, but the doubling is evident. Knowing that it is a well known variety instead of an error is OK. At least the search turned up something. Like I said, I was looking for type C's. I found a couple of maybes, but the one that appeared the most likely turned out to be a 1963 ? Go figure. Very strong strike I guess, because the tail feathers and leaf points compared very well with a 1965 side by side. That's another story though. Needless to say I am glad to find the DDR. Maybe I can finance a better magnifier with it ? Still have not found the right combo for clear pics on my camera. My eyes are not good enough to read the focus on the LCD, so it's a lot of guess work. Thanks guys
here is the image you have, enhanced to shadow,so we can see some of the doubling.without a better picture,we cant truly tell.because of the tilt on the right side,we can barely tell that there is doubling. I can see what looks like doubling on QUAR,and a hint on the "D" but I cant make out anywhere else
I see what you mean. I can see it in the shadowed pic on the Q U R and on the O and M. On the actual coin, it is much more evident on those letters, and shows up well on the C and S. Let me work with my camera and see if I can get some decent pics ? So far, I have taken about 100 pics that I had to delete. So I am not hopeful. It's not the coin, or the camera, but that stupid nut that presses down on the button.
use a tripod if you have one, timer if it has one,and you dont need to be super close to it.we can always crop it.straight on would be good.
Thanks. I will try that when I have a lot of daylight. I built a copy stand, and the cam has a timer. It's the macro focus and the lighting that mess me up. There are about 15 settings and each one has a menu with a dozen other things to do. But there is no manual focus. I would really like you guys to see it. To validate me or give me the bad news. LOL Thanks Mad
I tried and tried. This one was the best. Maybe I have the balance off or something ? I just don't think this one is clear enough either. I am going to shop for another cam stand since I get paid this week LOL
too blury, gotta get the focus under control.if your camera has that many features,it has to have a focus
I might suggest using macro setting (approx. 6-8 inches from coin), turn off flash. Use an other light source, I use 2 lamps/lights on different sides of the coin. If you can get a clear pic that way then crop the "area" and resize image. Hope this helps, I'm still trying to refine my photographs also.
Guys, I just started this, and you are about the only schooling I am getting. I will eventually get it down. Finding time to practice AND look at coins is problematic at best. LOL Thanks so much for the tips. I WILL keep trying. Thank you
It's an Insignia NS-DSC7P09. f6.2-18.6mm F=2.8-5.2 I set the macro focus and tried the largest size 7.0. Maybe the homemade copy stand has too much movement ? I don't have a remote shutter control, so using a 10 sec delay. I will get out this week, maybe I can get a tripod or make a sturdier stand ? I have a suspicion that I need to get the right shutter speed with the f5.8 ?
Before I look it up I would say,set it on AUTO,and place it on the edge of a coffee table, with the coin below it,and use a lamp to get light, and take picture.I wouldnt mess with shutter speed and etc.auto should be fine, its a 7mp camera.with macro on
this pic I got a steady mount about 8" from the Quarter. Set everything on auto. Used sunlight through the window and ended up with this image. See what you think, I will try again tomorrow, though. It still looks too light, but it is clearer. I did order a tripod today.
