I found this interesting. While checking out the next Heritage auction I found these 3 notes, the same note, in 3 different grades by 3 different TPG's. The discrepancy in price must tell you something.....opinions?
Right off the top you see the CGA note is the least expensive and in the highest Grade and yes there is reason for that, With all there problems of over grading Wouldnt touch that one with a 100 foot poll !!
Heritage apparently disagrees with you, as they've given the CGA note the highest estimate. I'm too lazy to go check: Are all three notes from the same block? We may not even be comparing apples to apples....
That,s very misleading as i have found out for myself a couple of months Back, Had a chance to buy a Mpc Series 661 $10 in 68PPQ the estimate Given by Heritage was over $4,000, Thought it was out of my league ended Up selling for half that amount, So i really dont rely to much on there Estimates!
Yea their estimates are all over the board on some items as there are not enough of a track record for them to estimate with. But let's see after the auction ends. I do think the 66 will go for less though.
I would agree with that, Its most likely over graded, On top of that No one trust,s them i would be interested to know if theres a star On the back?? Not that it makes a bit of difference though.....LOL
The star doesn't matter to me...not yet. But who knows I"m open minded and if I see a real trend my opinion could change about them but it would be a long time. In hand is the best and a must for them now though!
This is not at all unusual to see the the three grades in that order by the TPG's. I agree that we should wait for the bidding to end before we jump to conclusions. However, due to all of the "stuff" that's been going on I would wager a bet that the higher graded version will most likely yield less.
The CGX graded note is from the old ownership since i assume since it is graded 66, it would have earned the "OPQ" designation which is not on the holder. My question is what are CGX graded notes doing in Heritage auctions? I thought they received a life ban from the big houses due to all of the "grading for dollars" games. I guess this one is OK since the note is is just being shown for refernce in all 3 holders as a selling point. I wonder how the note is currently slabbed? Are there any other auctions with CGX notes? I hope not!
Ok, I see now. Regardless of the grade or TPG, this will not be a fair comparison. You have three different blocks here, some being scarcer and more desirable then others.
I would go ahead and take either of the lower graded notes over the cgx One because we all know that one is over graded!!
What a silly debate. If you collect paper and you think you know a little the first thing you need to learn for yourself is how to grade. Who to trust is a whole other story. If you have enough reason to stay off of a piece because of who graded then you should. I have found some bargains in CGA holders so its a crap shoot. These days I find that dealers are the ones most concerned with grading companies. It dictates the $$$ brought in for a particular note. The North African series are great notes with beautiful eye appeal. I like them so much more than the Hawaii series. Happy collecting!
Pre grading is the best way to determine what your buying but Sometimes you do get some inconsistencies thats what you Have to watch out for!
Boy, talk about silly! The comment of "These days I find that dealers are the ones most concerned with grading companies. It dictates the $$$ brought in for a particular note", is the silliest so far. So you have to be a dealer to be concerned about grading companies? It's only the integrity of your collection portfolio at stake!! It's not necessary Brian for you to buy into the past and present going's on with CGX. Anybody that is somebody in the currency world will tell you that the value of you collection if entombed in CGX holders as opposed to PMG and PCGS will be worth 30%+ less when and if you cash out. And yes, learning to self grade is everything. Tell me, can you self grade any of the notes you purchase on an internet auction? Can you see any repairs, pressed out folds, cleaning or any remaining embossing? Now, does TPG integrity or track record mean anything to you when your ready to make a significant investment without the note in hand?
Wow, sounds like somebody has had some bad experiences. I will only comment that I essencially agree and when I come across any note graded by "this TPG", I either free them or submit to another TPG. Learning to self grade is key.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I haven't the foggiest idea what that means unless your implying that I'm ripe to be scammed. I can assure you that could not be more inaccurate. In fact, shoddy dealers have a great distaste for knowledgeable people like myself. I know you like to stir the pot (like myself), but I have most likely forgot more about currency collecting and grading than you have learned to date. Learn to self grade, and only buy raw notes online from a reputable seller you have dealt with previously or comes highly recommended by someone you trust. Otherwise, when buying graded notes on line, only by PCGS or PMG graded notes.
Payton I would never IMPLY anything about you. I dont know your background. For me to say I forgot more than you know would take more than a shot in the dark. Although I dont think your afraid to take one. I hope you find many treasures......I say this with some reluctance although even losers get lucky sometimes....sorry Tom but it seems fitting here. PEACE
