I'm not a big collector of foreign coins, but every once in a while I come across one that is particularly attractive to me. I found this one in a lot of about 2,000 coins that I bought at a garage sale. Let's see one from the year you were born! Chris
I"m interested Just don't have any from my birthyear to post. Give it some time. There's lots of topics and you never know what takes off. BTW your Balboa is cool.
Thanks! Like I said, it was part of 2,000 coins I bought at a garage sale, so it only costed me 1c, but the best find out of the entire lot was a 1916 Mexico 1c (key date) that I sent to NGC. It graded XF40BN. I also kept $20 face value of pre-1965 US silver, and sold the remaining 9lbs of foreign coins from about 60 countries for $65. In effect, the Balboa and the Mexico 1c were free. Chris
Yep - I have a couple of nice Candian halves, but not my birth year. As a matter of fact I am not even sure I have a US coin from that date(except in my harris folders). Sounds like you had a few good finds. Always nice to score like that.
What had happened was that he had most of the US and some of the foreign coins in 2x2's in, of all things, a 3-compartment, plastic silverware tray. The majority of the foreign coins were loose in note-sized envelopes and (LOL!) plastic medicine bottles in shoe boxes. I asked him what he wanted for everything, and he just stared blankly at me as if he was trying to total everything in his head. So, I just told him I'd give him $200 for everything. Chris
Well I really like the color of that coin posted. It is a nice one. And for $200 bucks sounds like a deal.
Oops - I meant for the whole lot. Plus you still have $20 in pre-1965 silver. So this one was free and I actually think when all is said an done(if you sold everything else) - they paid you to take this coin.
Please excuse me, but I'm a Virgo. Actually, the $20 in pre-65 silver is worth more like 11x face.:high5: Values 1916 Mexico 1c - $150 (estimate) 1947 Panama Balboa - $25 (estimate) US Silver - $220 (melt) Misc. Foreign - $65 $460 - $200 = $260 Profit NOTE: Submission of 1916 Mexico was a freebie. Chris
