A good friend of mine once worked at the Horseshoe Casino. After a while dealing and a stint in security he was promoted to one of Ted Binion's chauffeurs. Anyway I would like to get one of the Binion pedigree silver dollars. My question is do any of you own a Binion Morgan or Peace dollar? If so where did you get it and do you think the premium was/is worth it? How much should I expect to pay for one with a common date?
Most of the ones I've seen are in well circulated condition. Even with the Binion name they were selling for just over melt. This was in area Vegas coin shops. Guy~
I have one or two. I got one from a coin show and one off eBay. Most of the Binion coins were pretty roughed up (a lot of common date low MS grade stuff). The premium on both of them wasn't much, I think I might have paid around $30-$35 for each. *The premium does seem to get larger the higher the grade, the premium also seems to be higher for better date coins. You should still be able to pick up a low MS grade common date for around $35 off eBay.
One seller is asking $225 for ho-hum, below average coins, but another is asking $45-$65 for MS62/63. Chris
Yes, but you were paying more for the color, not the coin. If you ever get tired of it, you can send it to me for my birthday. Chris
Lol I saw one auction for a common date for $200. They can ask whatever they want, but it doesn't mean it's worth it. With some patience I'm sure one can be picked up for around $35. Here are 3 auctions that sold in the last 20 days that sold for a little over $35. 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar Binion 1923-P Peace Silver Dollar NGC MS63 1887 NGC MS62 BINION MORGAN
binions bring anywhere from a 10% premium to a 400% premium.its about finding the one in specific you want, and winning it.every coin talks
Just want a pedigree. Date or MM not important. Thanks for all the answers guys. I am thinking it would make a nice gift for my buddy who worked personally for Ted Binion.
I bought a bag that has half of a pound of binion silver in it and also a 1922 peace that is in a tpg slab. got the whole thing for $75 a year ago!
I've bought two Binions from Ebay. If I remember correctly, I paid a modest premium for one, and no real premium for the second, but the second coin looks low end for the stated grade on the label.
Ted Binion Collection I remember watching the murder trial on CourtTV. Found this link but I bet they are charging big bucks -- but it does have some history about Ted's hoard: http://www.binioncollection.com
How about a questionably toned Binion Morgan Dollar. I swear this photo is a very accurate representation of the actual appearance of the coin.
