I have 5 of these that I got from a garage sale. According to the Krause book this Crown, KM#910, was also struck as a Specimen with a satin finish that is pretty rare. How can I tell if the ones I have are the normal strike or the Specimen with the satin finish? Thanks! Chris
1) you got them at a garage sale. 2) they made millions of the non-specimen. 3) they made four of the specimen (according to PCGS). 4) all four are accounted for.
I didn't really think I would get that lucky, but I would love to see what one with the satin finish looks like. PCGS, huh? Registry Sets? Chris
Try using a different search engine. Mine, so to say, came up with this ... http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/MemberImageGallery.aspx?m=11533&sc=732 Christian
Thanks for the link, but I still don't see how anyone can tell the difference between one of these and a circulation strike. Chris
You can't by looking at pictures. But when looking at the coins in hand you can. Think of it this way - how do you tell a satin finish US Mint Set coin from a business strike ?
I can see the difference in a photo between our business strike and the satin finish, but I couldn't see any difference in the photos of these. Chris
Well if we are to believe the person who posted that example in the PCGS registry it should be easy to tell by looking at pictures. All you have to do is look for all those hairlines
