today I bought 42 P TII Unc Jefferson and when I got home I noticed that it had some die detoriation on his forehead(quite noticable on the loupe). Should I take it back, do I have the right to take it back? What would you do?:desk: Thanks
Here's 2 pictures. they are bad and you wont be able to tell at least in my mind. There is also a die crack too that you can see running verticial and runs right into the die detoriation the dark spot is APRIL FOOLS cause it's not a detoriation more like a spec of dirt. it is April first right? /smackforehead but there is a nice airline die crack from the top of his head to the eyebrow and from the edge of the nickel through the letter "G" in God to his chin.
You bought a raw uncirculated "War Nickel" for I assume a few dollars and I do not find the minute die chip to be a problem, I would be more concerned with the hits on Jeffersons face...since this is raw and you had the chance to examine this coin before purchasing, I'd pretty much say "it's yours" Now, if you are totally unsatisfied and the dealer will let you trade it out for a like item, fine, but I would not go in there and ask for a refund...next time take your loupe. Happy Collecting
Did you buy it from a shop? If so, then certainly you can take it back, but it will be up to you and the shop owner to determine if you get a full refund, credit on future purchases or sell the coin at some loss. On a case like this I would imagine you would get a full refund simply to make you happy and to retain your future business.
You could save it for a while and take it in later as a trade on something else. Some dealers don't like to mess with returns on this price of coins but will take them in trade. Just a thought.
thanks guys, I wanted to keep it no matter what..I love these nickels. I just will have to buy another one..shucks I agree with what you are saying I should have looked at it better, it was one of those days where you where going to the grocery store for diapers and accidentally run to the coin shop -Shrek
Probably everyone has done similar in their collecting time, even after decades of collecting. I always consider it as my periodic dues to the " Look more carefully" club.
I don't see any problem with the die crack and die chip. After all it is part of the die and how the coin was struck. The gashes on the jaw are worse as far as I am concerned. They are post mint damage.
