With the announcement of the new $100 bill, I naturally started thinking about how to acquire it. One way I have acquired US currency in the past is by visiting my local bank, which occasionally has bills in uncirculated to about uncirculated condition. I say "occasionally" since that is very much of a hit and miss affair, and the banks typically only specially get uncirculated notes around the Chinese New Year holiday (currency giving is popular in the Chinese culture) and Christmas. But the nice thing about banks is that if they have the bill, you can get it for face value, no markup. I was curious what other ways folks have acquired uncirculated US currency? How are you planning to get your hands on the new $100 bill?
Watch the B.E.P. online store when they release new Series of notes. Yes, they sell at a mark up, but you can usually get low serial numbers or serial numbers for a particular year of release. Money Factory.gov You can also ask your bank's vault teller to check to see if they have fresh notes in the vault if none are available from the tellers or perhaps speak to a manager about ordering new straps of notes for you, then cherrypick what you want and redeposit the rest of the notes.
Thanks for the tips - sounds like visiting on a Friday and asking for note straps are good tips. Will also watch the moneyfactory website.
