I have never understood that either. I was raised and spent my entire life in So Cal. When my kids went to school they would ask me why they didn't get the lunch passes like all the other kids. LOL I always felt that if you cannot afford to feed them, don't have any more. I never wanted to sponge of everyone else to take care of my kids. Pride, I guess.
Not pride. I call it being a responsible citizen. It seems to me that this country is more and more becoming an "Entitlement" society. Hence, IMO, the lack of more significant aversion to the present socialistic moves being postured by the government. But I digress, and will cease making any more statements like this.
Or you could join the PRWE forum, aka the assylum, and make all the political statements you want. Cya there!
Well if you had them and wanted to get rid of them quickly or use them as collateral for a loan just where would you go? Flame throwers R Us? No wait a minute , they are retailers, they don't buy them back. Your local bank? "Hey can I get some money from you? I got a flamethrower here!"
You are so right!! There the worst!! What 19 kids and counting or is it 20, And she doesnt even take care of them her other kids do:headbang: Thats The buddy system or is it the ding bat system!!
Pawn Stars - Visited today Just got back from visiting the Silver and Gold Pawn Shop on Pawn Stars. The coin prices were high - for example they sell Silver Eagles for $30.00. There was a brown box Eisenhower for $50.00. Rick, Chumley and the Old Man were there and were very gracious and let us tourists take our pictures with them. I bought a few t-shirts. I did see a well circulated Washington quarter 1932S for $250.00. Couldn't tell you the grade and the one that was on the show was a fake that Rick did not buy - so this must have been a different one.
Did you ask Rick if he had any of those common-date, circulated CC Morgans that are worth $500? Chris
Wow, he pays about 50% for nearly everything. If I ever need to sell my 32s quarter, that might be the place to go ?
I love the shoow and hope to be able to visit the store one da just to see all the cool stuff they get in on pawn
Always try and negotiate on anything you buy at the pawn shop!! What do you think Rick and the boys do to you!!
I don't want to rant, but I really wish some of you would get an education with regards to specialty retailing. It is not like a grocery store where many people stop in and buy things that they need to eat and live. It is specialty and not everyone that comes in buys the goods. If you actually believe you can make it in specialty retail by marking up your goods in whatever range some of you think is fair, you should take the risk, lay out your cash and see how fast you go under. Seriously, think about paying rent, electricity, heating/cooling, fixtures and set-up, goods/wares/merchandise, and if you become a bit of a success you might even get the pleasure of employees. Please let me know how that 25% markup works out for you. Heck, maybe you can show me how to make it work by doubling your cost of merchandise. Please stop with the whining about what shops mark things up. They are trying to make a living just like you, only in a different way. You have every right to walk out and not buy a thing, many people do just that in a curtious and polite manner.
Pretty much. You can try and work down the price and if it doesn't suit you. Vote with your feet or your wallet in this case and go elsewhere.
PeacePeople I agree that there is always a lot of complaining here about the profits taken. And sometimes I agree that it's unwarranted as they are not making that much after costs. But other times it's seems to high or way to high like the 32s quarter that was offered for $35. That's just a rip and is obviously way to much in profit.
I think they should just adopt the corporately accepted Walmart style of business beginning at a 2500 percent markup. Hey the old man is so crooked looking, he can't even open his eyes...ever notice? I have a local coin shop I don't frequent anymore cause the dude is top dollar and beyond on everything. His shop though and nobody's forcing me to buy anything...so I don't anymore. Same deal here I'd say.
I have an acquaintance who owns a small pawn shop in my area. I don't know about the laws regulating pawn shops in other states or in other counties within our state for that matter, but the paperwork he must complete when he buys an article from someone borders on the ridiculous. He told me of one incident where the description of the item purchased failed to include the color of the box it was in, so the sheriff's investigator made him produce his records for the previous two years. They proceeded to "nickel and dime" him for things, like failing to mention that a black watchband was plastic rather than leather, to the tune of $8,000 in potential fines. He had to pay to have an attorney represent him, and was able to have most of the citations overturned, but it still cost him about $3,000. Life as a pawn shop owner isn't as easy as some people might think. It may interest you to know that on more than one occasion, I have sold him coins, not only for resale in his shop, but also because he has become interested in collecting. Unlike Pawn Stars, he usually pays me better than CDN Ask. Chris
I watch the show all the time,as far as coins,i would say the mark up would be pretty high,i havn't yet seen any coins on the show. Jack
