I was wondering if you were going to give that Morgan the cc bump.

 

I was stuck on the fence, but I figure with the toning and being a CC it probably got bumped.

Round 3 recap:

Man, ya'll really submitted responses to this one fast,, so what the heck, lets turn three rounds this week. I'll try to keep it to 2 rounds per week, especially if I see many regulars without reply.

First, the voting came back 6 to 1 in favor of a scoring change... So consider it done. Given the more static nature of the new scoring system, I have decided to up the dropped score ratio from 1 every 11th grade, to 1 every 16th grade. Net should be 1 less dropped score at the end of the game,, around 48 coins total in the exercise.,,, so 3 dropped scores vs. 4,,, provided you submit a grade for every coin in the exercise. Net of scoring chang is that old was "avg points from actual tpg grade", new will be "avg grades from actual tpg grade".... so less heavily weighted towards the lower range and now evenly weighted across all grade ranges.

Another good group of submissions in round 3.

I just wanted to get the new grading changes out there while they were fresh in my mind.

Pretty solid round for everyone....

PCGS grades:
1883CC - MS64 - CAC'ed... pretty coin..
1949D - MS65 - D/S..think I noted it too early,, will not do that in the future and will let ya'll call it if you see it..... but will not score against you if you don't. Only thing that counts against you would be BB attributes like cleaned, or corrosion, or questionable color, etc.... I'm gonna count those at 5 pt misses in this exercise.. there will not be many, fewer than you'll have dropped scores at the end of the game.
NGC grades:
1922S - MS62... one of the tougher ones this round
PCI (gold label) grades:
1945 - MS65.. almost everyone got this one.

Observations: 1883CC was cac'ed,, so borderline grader I guess,, and the 22S was a tough call IMO, as 58,60,61, and 62's always are.

yea this one really makes me upset about the 40D I just got back from pcgs ms64 I thought was alot nicer than this one.

 

These high resolution pics can really make some nicks look worse than they appear in hand... I think the truth of the look lies somewhere between the little pic in the thread and the blown up pic you get after you click on it. I definitely think you can judge luster better in the little pics. That said, the nic is there,, who knows, maybe it got a RPM bump similar to the CC bump Raider and Lehigh were talking about for morgans. Lehigh could probably answer this question the best given his expertise and passion in that series,,, so Lehigh, have you ever noticed any specific sub population with the series that gets similar CC like bumps ?... is there a RPM bump ?

 

When I was grading that Jefferson I was torn between MS64 & MS65. Once I saw that the coin was graded by PCGS, I immediately guessed MS64 as PCGS is more conservative. And although that is true, it really on applies in the premium gem grades. PCGS is much more hesitant to award MS67 grades than NGC but their standards for MS65 are much closer. It doesn't surprise me that the coin is in an MS65 holder. The RPM may indeed have been the deciding factor. The TPG's will routinely bump key date coins up in grade. The varieties in the Jefferson series including the RPM's are the keys. I can't say definitively because I don't really collect that part of the Jefferson series.
