Could someone please tell what is the meaning of "D" under the year? I got one cent from 1969, just like the one on first post picture, but the year digits are fine and there is a "D" under.

Also got a quarter dollar from 1974 with a "D" and one from 1996 with a "P", located in the bottom right part, near Washington's bow. Curious what those letters mean.

that's what you call the Mint Mark
    P stands for Philadelphia
    D stands for Denver
    S stands for San Franciso
Lincoln cents will NOT have the P mint mark

    Thanks, Shoewrecky.

I meant "quarter dollar from 1974 with a "D" and quarter dollar from 1996 with a "P", not "quarter dollar from 1974 with a "D" and one cent from 1996 with a "P".

Didn't want him to think that Philly doesn't make cents.
