http://www.littletoncoin.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Display|10001|10001|-1|||GXE-01.html just got this in my email with the header... It's here! Littleton's New 2010 Timeless Gifts Catalog looked at the prices...think I had a heart attack...yup gotta get those 2010 sae showpaks, what a deal at $35.95 (plus shipping) geez that's only what, double spot? The colorized state quater set for $210, it even INCLUDES the territories! Geez i dunno if the are p or d quarters, it doesn't say. Maybe they come from the crayola mint. Does anyone here on Coin Talk actually buy their coins from Littleton? I'd love to get my hands on a mailing list of folks who actually pay their prices. Could come in handy. Seriously I think perhaps Littleton does the hobby a disservice by presenting a false image of how valuable the coins they market are really worth. I understand they have a lot of overhead with the size of their facility, number of employees, and advertising campaign, but imho they rate right up there with the QVC hucksters and the traveling gold roadshow bandits. Just venting really, but would love to hear any "Littleton" or other related stories from members, I'm just fishing for interesting comments.
I do beleive that some of the first coins my dad got me were from littleton, I haven't hit them up since.
I bought both my Grandsons a bulk pack of the complete set of Statehood Quarters along with the album (P&D their choice) and I must say that what I paid for both coin and album was rather cheap. It was from a promotional ad but you had to return a card requesting they not send you anything on approval. The quarters were all BU and it looks like they came out of mint bags. I was overall pleased with the transaction and my Grandsons enjoyed putting the SQ in the date year album. Happy Collecting
Though I will never buy from Litleton directly I will buy coins that are still in littleton packaging if I can get them for the right price. though they tend to price items high they tend to grade conservatively. Richard
Littleton's prices on raw coins usually run 1 1/2 times higher than other dealers. The bulk of their business is probably their "coins on approval" service which seems to be very popular with the casual collectors who want to see the coins in their hands before they acually pay for them. But there must be some losses occurring there, too, which would explain their higher prices.
Littleton is such a freaking joke. It angers me so freaking much that they can stay in business. EDUCATE YOURSELVES PLEASE CONSUMERS- buy from people who deserve your business AKA NOT LITTETON
Bought some silver eagles from them about 10 years ago. They seemed okay and the price was good. I used to buy from Austin before I discovered APMEX.
Never bought from them and never will as mentioned very high prices. They obviously survive on the non knowledgable or beginner collector
I think they survive on the hyped up dreams of older and uninformed people thinking they will buy something with a huge return on there money in a few years and end up getting screwed. I cant stand people that take advantage of people like that.
Every time I see a post downgrading that company I say to myself how and why are they still in buisness when all your ever hear is bad, horrible, overpriced, etc about them. If you go to any coin forum and go to thier search tabs and type in that coin company, all you see is all the rotten things about them. YET and HOWEVER, they have been in buisness for a long, long time. They do have a massive clientel. I talk to people at coin shows all the time and when that name comes up, again all your hear is how bad they are. Then I always mention how long they've been around and why? I think if I asked a thousand people none deal with them. So how come they make so much money?
I constantly see advertisements in the mail for them, Offering what Seems to be a great deal and then finding out later you got, Well This supposed to be like a 50,s T.V show, So i wont say...LOL
