British American Bank Note vignette I am seeking information on a particular vignette engraved by the British American Bank Note company. This was created in the 1940s and I have the original pencil sketch for this image. I would love to find the vignette on a stock or bond (or anything). Right now all I have are scans of a couple BABN desk calendars, which belong to someone else, which I'll post. any help is appreciated, even just identifying where it appears. Greg
Try their homepage they may be able to ID the vignette http://www.cbnco.com/collect/collect-display.php?vign=L100
I guess I got a little off-topic, so to be clear: this is a vignette by British American Bank Note -- *not* CBNC. These are two different companies, though I believe both were based in Ottawa.
If you find a link to the British American Bank Note Co.please share it with our group,I'd like to see some of their vignettes,
The Bond color and Vignette (Pioneer Spirit ") are beautiful ,truly art & engraving that compliment each other in their own right.
Here's a link to a page with their history and some vignettes. I have several other desk calendars which feature a lot of their other vignettes. I'll scan those in the near future. http://webhome.idirect.com/~mjp/articles/babn.html And some further info on Canadian security printers: http://www.stampprinters.info/SPI_Country_Canada.htm#CANADA The company was acquired by Giesecke & Devrient in 1999. Here's their current website -- http://www.babanknote.com/
Thanks for the links ,Smillie & Family were in many Bank Note Co. Vignettes are beautiful,do they have BCBNC Archive Series sets similar to ABNCo Archive Series ?
BABN didn't get into the collector market much. I have one philatelic book for which they and CBNC provided the vignette panels. Robert Bailey has some scans on his website: http://rsb.riche.net/abncreports/canadabook.htm (Incidentally "Pioneer Spirit" is one of the vignettes.) And BABN provided some vignettes in a few of the Plate Printers Union convention books. Otherwise, the only examples of their work are the desk calendars I mentioned.
BABN link Folks, I just posted a new thread with British American Bank Note vignettes: http://www.cointalk.com/t104589/#post871511 The first batch is of locomotives!
