Yeah, I liked that feature of the forum. It gave me incentive to create a meaningful post once a week. I still do from time to time, but they have definitely fallen off. It has to be a least 6 months now since the feature is gone. I was going to suggest that the CT members start using the rating feature for threads. There are so many threads these days that it is really hard to wade through all of them. If we started using the thread rating system, the cream of the crop would rise to the top and I would know which threads not to miss.
Thread of the Week was fun... even the "Clinker award" buttons on each post were sort of fun too... I didn't even know you could rate threads until you just mentioned it. I rated this one and not sure how anyone can tell though??
I very much enjoyed the Thread of the Week feature. Honestly, that was one of the things I enjoyed most about this site, and one of the the things that got me to stay. When I put the time and effort into writing my in depth articles, its nice to feel appreciated. The competitive aspect with the other posters was highly motivating!
I haven't been here that long and I wasn't even aware that there had been a TOTW, but it seems that meaningful threads get buried rather quickly. Maybe there should be a category like NGC's "Water Cooler" where posters can ramble on about anything they want so that important threads don't fade away like old soldiers. Chris
We have a section like that here (for off topic discussions), it's called the General Discussion, but you have to opt into it. The main feature I liked about the TOTW was the section where all the threads were kept, there was a lot of great info in there.
Yeah, there was. If your thread won, you got a medal under your avatar as recognition. I had a couple. It was a nice, seemingly simple, feature. The forum has went backwards in that sense, as opposed to progressing. I thoroughly enjoyed the threads but they're lost in the mix now. Never did hear an explanation.
definitely, the recognition was cool, but the best resource was the "hall of fame" or whatever it was where there was a list of the past winners of the highest rated threads. when i first joined i remember reading most of those threads and they were great. sure the threads are still here, but not sure how a newbie would ever find them now.
