I picked up a Jefferson dansco about 80% complete plus a hand full of extras in 2x2's and thought a Jefferson thread would be cool so everyone could share their Jefferson Nickel's
Thanks Tater, over the next couple of weeks I am going to photograph some more that I picked up I have to go through and check them for varieties first. Time to learn about Jefferson varieties. Been involved with the Ike variety hunt for the last couple of years. Terry
Thanks for sharing, Stewart. There are a few Jefferson nickel collectors here. I'm sure you'll see some nice pics soon.
Robec, Beautiful Just Beautiful pair of Jeff's:thumb: I Don't think the one I posted would go "Full Steps" if sent in. There is one tick just above the "I" in Monticello on the lowest visible step. My photography is a work in progress:headbang: If you look close in the close-up part of the photo you can see it that is why I put the close-up in the photo. Terry
The 1953 proof is raw, at least for now. It is owned by D. Blake from PCGS message board. I didn't write down the grade of the 1957 when I photographed it. I have since modified that practice. The owner, PCcoins of NGC/PCGS, will chime in on the grade or will let me know. I do remember what a knockout it was. The 1957 is a PCGS MS65
The reverse of that coin looks very much like the reverse of my 1963 NGC MS67. This coin is extremely difficult to photograph. It is like the colors are trying to hide from you. I had to use diffused lighting just to get a decent shot. If you want to take a shot at it Bob, just let me know!
I'd love to try my hand at it. I've got most of my hair pulled out already and plenty of aspirin. I love the purple on the obverse.
Terry, Here are some of the major varieties in the Jefferson Nickel series. There are also a whole bunch of mintmark varieties as well. 1939 Doubled Monticello Jefferson Nickel 1943-P Doubled Eye Jefferson Nickel 1943/2-P Jefferson Nickel 1945-P DDR Jefferson Nickel FS-801 formerly FS-030 1945-P DDR Jefferson Nickel FS-803 formerly FS-030.3 NGC has a service called Variety Plus. In it they provide a listing of every variety that they recognize for every coin series. The link below will take you to the Variety Plus listing for Jefferson Nickels. Some of them also have photos attached although you need to be a paying member to have access. NGC Variety Plus Jefferson Nickels I don't currently have any of the mint mark varieties in my collection to show you. They are very expensive and I just don't find them that interesting. I hoped this post helps you in your cherrypicking ventures. Paul
Paul, Thank You Very Very much for the variety pictures those are beautiful. I have to get them out of the safe and start going through them. I had one catch my attention the other day it looked like the right side of Monticello on the dome looked doubled like the first one of yours I can't recall what year mine was though. I'll post when I find out. The pictures and link you posted will go a long way to getting me started Again thank you Very Much!! This looks like it is going to turn out to be quite an adventure Time to get to diggin':stooge: Terry
Found the one that has the doubling on the right side of the dome and the foot of the column it is a 1956-D took close to 100 shots with a Loupe and camera :desk:but I finally got it. Got to get a stereo microscope with a camera attachment. Would make it a lot easier. Terry
