3 count em 3 fantastic coins I'm presently bidding on end in roughly 24hrs so. So I'm stuck playing that how high can I go game... right now I have winning bids on all 3 coins but that's already a hair over my budget if I win all 3... I don't think any of em going at the current prices (well maybe 1)... always tough to make the call to bid higher in these cases.. More then once, i've "over won" my budget and I really can't afford to this month lol...

I always hate competing auctions. What usually happens to me, since I worry about going over what I comfortably wish to spend, is I go light on most of them, missing out on items, then the final one I invariably get outbid. :( Most of the time I end up not getting as much as I wanted.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "over budget".

If it means that you literally don't have enough money to pay for them, or that the purchases will cause financial complications elsewhere... then you obviously shouldn't be buying these coins. (And, you might want to rethink the types of coins that you are targeting in the first place).

If it means that you are going over some self-imposed, periodic limit that you've placed on yourself in the interest of not letting the hobby run away with you..... and you have significant cash savings... and the coins are not something that comes up very often, then I'd say bid away! ;) You can balance the budget out later.

With electronic auctions, I avoid these types of dilemmas by sticking to a simple recipe:

    1. Figure out the absolute maximum that I would be willing to pay.
    2. Scale the amount by accounting for shipping, buyer's fees, etc.
    3. Place a bid for the calculated value, rounded to match bid increments.
    4. Check back after the auction to see if I've won.

The way I see it, if you place more than one bid in an electronic auction, then you are allowing somebody to manipulate you (auction house, other buyers, etc). I'm already being manipulated to some extent by the auction house when accounting for bid increments in my recipe, that's about all I can take! :inpain:

    Vertigo Did someone say bust?

I had 2 bids in at once. Both well under list. I won them both. Overkill on the budget. It is what it is

All that matters if you liked them and something you wanted that’s the key.
