Fake or not. This is a really cool looking piece of artful paper. Sorry that it might be fake. There are graders for currency so don't let it go. 1861 happens to be a favorite date for me.

Read up on achival framing (acid free backs and matts).

I got an 1863 like this for around $30.00. You can see the signatures ate through the paper and is visible on the reverse. Also, on most of these, the black ink would turn a brown color.

Prices can vary widely on these confederate notes as some people try to take advantage of other people who aren't acquainted with the full facts. For example, it looks old so it "must" be valuable. In reality, many millions of confederate notes were printed. They had a severe inflation problem as the years went on. Granted, real ones aren't worth throwing away. They do have some value but more like 0 to $100 range most often. They are quite common and affordable which makes it good for anybody that wants to own some.

The confederate notes are their own niche in our currency, not to be confused with obsolete bank notes or national bank notes which circulated around the same era. The latter tending to be much more valuable. They all are very interesting.

Why do you assume I think its worth a lot because it is old, I never said that. I can buy a 2000 year old Roman coin for £1....

I was referring to people in general. I'm sorry that that is all you got from my post.

I gotta say, its a neat piece at the very least and would make a great framed conversation piece.

Indeed, I want to give it to Tess (Sunflower) if she doesn't want it I'll make a frame for it as I love woodwork and I'll take a picture when I'm done!

Yes, Tess/Sunflower is very appreciative. A PM has already been sent to make sure that it is OK with the family. Don't worry, I will make it up to the young Mr. Venn, and will keep the CT community posted.

1861 happens to be the year of my still budding collection of coins and other artifacts. That year is important to me for several reasons - such as being 100 years prior to my birth year. Additionally, some where in our family linage (Mother's side) there is family link (weaklink?) to Jefferson Davis (the long lost side of the family from Kentucky).

If I begin to see "sunflower" on the side bar under most frequent users in last few hours, then I try to sign off. The weather is great again and I need to get something done. I don;t want to become a complete bum.

    Thanks again @FrankVenn.

haha I've been enjoying a bit of good but rare English weather and have been sleeping in the garden next to my dog lol.

Even though the note is most probably fake I'd prefer it going to an American for obvious reasons ;)

The idea of "cereal boxes," and "throw aways" sounds amazing to me. Glad FrankVenn Great Grand dad chose a greatgrand son that would take such great care of them. The condition was nice.

The genuine T20 notes are black and white and are only printed on the face.
