I found this coin while going through my grandfather's coin collection. I don't know much about coins, so I need help from someone who knows about these types of coins. Does anyone know what it's worth or what time period it's from? Here are a couple pictures of it: http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af335/jaaronh/TelemachusFront.jpg http://i1021.photobucket.com/albums/af335/jaaronh/TelemachusReverse.jpg
3 possibilites: 1 Telemachus, son of Odysseus who kept faith while his father fought the Trojans. (unlikely coin because his name on the coin is in western script and not Greek. 2 St. Telemachus, a christian monk who jumped into a gladitorial fight to prevent a killing and was promptly stoned to death (some people just can't stand a spoilsport). Can't see the emperor of the time issuing a coin in commemoration of that event. 3 The title of episode one of Ulysses by James Joyce. This would make the coin 20th century? Well I wouldn't say it's fake as Siberian Man and CheetahCats say because that implies it's a copy of a genuine coin. I think it's just a token, maybe in a series for characters from Homer's works (and I don't mean Simpson) or a give away by something like Reader's Digest or petrol stations.
Sir, I can"t agree that it"s a copy of a real coin, becauce Telemachus was the Greek hero, but I see Latin alphabet.
Sorry Siberian Man I didn't mean to imply that it was genuine or a copy of a genuine. It's just not a coin. Yes the script is Latin (or modern western) but I don't ever recall seeing any roman coins featuring what was basically a 'literary' Greek character (as opposed to Greek/Roman gods/godesses).
