Hey thanks for the message. I appreciate the nice intro to CT, very nice of you. I will look back through the thread, always like to learn something new I will post some pics soon like of the PCGS 73S PF68DCAM Siver DDO FS 101 I just got my hands on.
The coin was graded MS64 by NGC. No surprise to you guys. You were right on the mark. I agree with you that it is also a marginal MS64. My guess is that PCGS would go MS63 on it. I am also distracted by the fingerprint on the reverse. Final decision: Pass. My quest for that 1972-P IKE Type 2 continues. I am going cherry-picking for Type B quarters and Type II Franklins tomorrow, so maybe I will add this coin to the list. Thanks! TC
There are some nice specimens in this post! I predict, based on the way things have been recently going, that in another decade or two the Eisenhowers and SBAs will become very much collectible... ...Not because of any intrinsic value, but because their reverse design illustrates what the U.S. used to have - an actual manned-space program!
:smile I knew someone was going to say that... couldn't think of a quick way to qualify the wording at the time... how about "significant intrinsic"...
I will give you that. Although, if silver goes as high as some people are predicting, I will sell every 40% silver Ike I have for it's intrinsic value. Don't forget, some of the Ike varieties are selling for some pretty significant numbers so they may not have a lot of intrinsic value but there is some value to be had. Just having a little fun here Cheetah. Nice exchange by the way. Thanks.
Thanks for the nice comments. Both are raw and belong to a PCGS/NGC board member. He is like Lehigh and Marauderrt10 in that he is a nut on finding toners.
Another one I like a lot is the die clashes this one is a 1972-D with a "Moon Line" die clash reverse. one of the strongest Moon Line Clashes I have found to date.
So many of you have some nice examples of VAM Ikes makes me want to get one. Can you tell me about the happy eagle one. I've read about it on the Ike group but does anyone have one that they can share and explain to me how it was made. It might be I am just missing something as I read about it on the Ike group.
I ask because in my type set I want circulated coins of the dollars. It's not an issue of money but appearance in an album.
I got ya now. I'll look and see if I have one, but I don't think I do. It might turn out to be harder to find a circulated coin than a BU example.
