Nothing. Absolutely nothing! 1st choice - Couldn't find a half cent for my collection. 2nd choice - Couldn't find a large cent for my collection. 3rd choice - Couldn't find any Early Commemoratives (there had to some somewhere). 4th choice - Almost pulled the trigger on an 1873 "Doubled LIBERTY" IHC in a PCGS AU slab but decided not to. Too much money for a 4th choice. But I did spend $35 for parking. So what's my next possibility? Assuming I don't want to travel far, I guess it'll be the Spring Whitman. I'll also look into the Spring FUN Show and maybe the next Central States show. I want to do them at least once, but airfare may keep me away.
Not sure how far you live away but there is a show in Gettysburg coming up at the end of the month (25th and 26th). There is one in Annapolis that same weekend (27th) and then there is one in Fredrick the weekend after.
The Gettysburg show announcements seem to indicate they expect over 100 dealers. Is that true for the Thanksgiving show? I'll likely be in the region that weekend, and might make the trip -- but the one other time I went to a National Battlefield show, it was tiny, maybe a dozen or so exhibitors. Not sure I'd take the time away from family for that.
I am not sure @-jeffB I haven't been to the Anapolis show and its probably been 5 or more years since I have been at Fredrick or the GB show. I was just looking at shows that were close to the Baltimore area. I may try to make the GB show on Friday though.
Tables are still available, and usually there are not as many Dealers, for obvious reasons, but good attendance, because of the "..my god I have GOT to get out of the house or they are gonna drive me crazy with this Thanksgiving stuff..." crowd.
There's are the 2 Timomiun shows in December. 3rd and 18th. Theres is a Cambridge show 11/19/22. Guy is no longer doing his Annapolis or Westminster show any longer. There are a few club shows your best bet on dates and shows Coinzip.com shows
That is VERY unusual, and I expect that was the 2nd Show that took place there. Since the early years, it has been very well attended. The 2nd Show unfortunately coincided with the Balt. Show that year, and it was weird timing by both Shows. Since then the calendar changed, and the 2 Shows are separated by a week or 2 now. I have never been a fan of Annapolis. Many many years ago, it was a goto show, but then Whitman started, and things changed. Truth in editing: changed "i" to "I".
It is the Carroll County Coin Show, Sat. 19 Nov. 2022, 9:30 AM -5:00 PM. 45 WMC Drive Westminster, MD. 21158 You can call Lester White @ 410-848-3440 for particulars. The Show has been ongoing for so many years I can't recall when it started, anymore. It is not a gazillion tables, but is a local favorite and very enjoyable.
Guy is in the Nursing Home, isn't he, and has not done a show in a few years? Then again, I am assuming you are referring to Guy Whidden and not Carl Ostiguy.
I see. Carl, and not Guy. To my knowledge, Osterguy sold his interests already over the years, except 1. I did not see him @Balt., but he could have been there. However, Guy Whidden was definitely in a Nursing Home in Frederick, and was not returning home. Truth in Editing: added a "K".
Having the half cents and large cents come up dry is believable, depending upon how advanced your collection is and how narrow your searches are. I can't believe the early commemoratives. I went to the Baltimore show regularly for about two decades, and it's huge The early commemoratives were a drug on the market for years. I've read that they have perked up a little, but it's hard to believe that there were none at all at a Baltimore show.
I saw plenty of all of those items. I was also there Friday from around 10:15 till 12:30. Actually found a couple of the early mintmarked washingtons I wanted and had not found at the last couple of whitman shows (34d heavy motto MS64 and 35 D MS65). Were you looking for specific dates that were missing, because I saw lots of half and large cents, and at least a good smattering of early commemoratives?
I was there about the same time. And I was looking for specific dates/varieties/grades (VF/XF/AU) of half cents and large cents in NGC or PCGS slabs. I stopped at Earlycents and Tom Reynolds (the Colonel wasn't there). Tom had some nice coins but they were mostly rarer varieties (5-figure prices) and out of my price range. As for early commems, 5-10 years ago there were showcases all over the place. Although I didn't look hard I just didn't see any. I'm after about a dozen specific ones in PCGS/NGC slabs ranging from MS-63 to -65 to finish off my collection.
