I want these coins do do well as much as others who bought many of them (though this is probably a forlorn hope), but why would people pay more when they can buy the exact same product from the mint for cheaper? What am I missing here?

I see both raw and certified selling for under $40. I think there are too many speculators out trying to unload, dont think there are 350000 modern commemortative collectors out there. I have most of the commemoratives, dont think it's good investment though.

They have a wait (well into June). People want it ASAP not in 2 months.

You should go to "completed items" those are the ones that already sold. Those are all above $40 (for non cert).

I guess that if I use other search words I can come up with a few under $40, but those are from before the mint pushed back the delivery date.

Danr, you crack me up bud...I TRULY hope that you do well on these, but you have to come to terms that all indicators dictate that you should've sent your hoard back to the mint while you still had the opportunity.

Here are the last 5 non-slabbed, UNC auctions that ended:

    180492084748 2 UNC ($68.90 s&h incl) $34.45 ea
    180491750264 $42.82 s&h incl
    270563715646 $40.95 s&h incl
    280493245632 $36.00 s&h incl
    260582548312 $38.72 s&h incl

    avg $37.89 ea
    - $4.50 ebay fees
    - $2.00 postage and shipping materials

    $31.39 net

Even if you got your shipping for FREE from the mint, and paid $33 each, you're losing money. Based on averages of course. But even if you take the best closing auction from above $42.82 and subtract ebay fees and s&h to the buyer and you're only making a couple bucks at best.

I think that you missed the point. I was talking about coins sold AFTER the USMint date push back.

    Danr,

Since those were listed as the five most recent sales, my guess would be that they did happen after the push back unless the push back hasn't happened yet.

I'm in full agreement with Louie2bits here.... just waaay too many of them minted for one... blah design two... poor preliminary indicators three (and even if you only consider the to 10% of best indicators/sales,,, your still just netting a few bucks per coin without baking in the time and hassel and potential downside risks)...
... I could probably come up with a 4th, 5th and 6th reason,,,, but I'll stop here and simply say that I've be very very careful and hesitant in speculating on these coins. IMO, look for offerings that have 50k or less mintage and a huge collector base, like the lincoln chronical sets.... especially in today's economical environment.

I can't see them doing too much, as a lot of Boy Scouts and former scouts have turned their back on the design out of disgust for political correctness.

I was a scout (didn't earn Eagle). I think the designs with the 'helping hand' and 'looking out across the horizon' would have been so much more appealing (to look at) and would have better embodied what scouting is all about. It's too bad that an appointed politician (serving at the whim of the president) makes the final selection instead of some sort of advisory board having the final say. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the advisory boards don't have shortcomings of their own, but I think they would do a better job than the SECTREAS.

Lord isn't that the truth,,,,, I'm surprised the current administration didn't put two boys holding hands and skipping through a field of Lillies on the coin.... Looking forward to thier next recommendation, maybe a flammers pride metal will be coming out soon... Abit of an aside here, but I overheard my son watching a cartoon the other day,, Glen Martin thing, and heard a dialog that included something like .. ".. we endorse and support gay rights...".... I almost threw the f'ing TV through the window.
Between Janet Jackson tossing her tits in front of him during the Superbowl, and now child targeted homo-commercials I'm scared to let my 8 year old son watch TV anymore..... makes me want to vomit blood.. The crud is everywhere and taking all forms...
... I'd live to see the politically correct coin go down the toilet,,,,, well at least after Danr gets his money back... then *flush*

No matter how many threads Danr, the OP, opens on the BSA coins, hyping them in hopes of driving interest and seeing the flip-game as working in his favor, he's not going to shirk the overwhelming masses who forewarned him of the failure of modern silver commemorative US Mint $1 coins. It's all been laid out for him before in his other BSA threads. Yet he's amongst the few defenders, remains stubborn and with a poor track record on CT for predicting the rise in value, be it these commems or PMs. Caution and question the advice he's pushing and the evidence of such slim margins he's leaning on.

As an aside thought, look to what happened to the price of PMs last week on Friday after the announcement of Goldman Sachs being sued by the SEC for fraud. Silver bullion dropped just shy of 4% in a day. What will happen to PMs tomorrow when the market reopens? I personally think it will climb slowly through the week but who knows, could be more people this weekend preparing to run for more safety if GS doesn't settle with the govt. The point, the intrinsic value of silver just dropped and made that US Mint premium a whole lot bigger!

I'm not sure you would get much better from an advisory board or committee. You know what a committee is, an organism with six heads, twelve feet, and no brain. (My apologies to Roger Burdette.) And the SECTREAS has TWO advisory committiees that review and give him their recommendations on the designs before he makes the final decision. And he usually goes along with their recommendations. So in most cases the final design choice IS the choice of the advisory board.

Seems like a lot of risk and too much work to chase such small profits margins. Just me though. Took my proof and unc and put them in the back of the safe and let them sit with the other modern comms.
