I don't see anything wrong, but I'm not very good at spotting fake patina. From my perspective, it looks like a very nice coin.

Definitely a great looking coin, but I see why you might think it to look a little "too great". Unfortunately, like Bing, I can't say one way or the other with any confidence. I might be wrong, but at least in some cases, I would doubt this type of determination could be definitively made from a photo even by those with the appropriate expertise.

That's the real pickle with buying raw ancients online. You have to trust the seller's expertise and/or integrity to some extent when making the purchase, yet, the last person that should be trusted is the one profiting from the transaction :banghead:

I don't know anything about the expected style or really fabric of the type but I do see what to my eye looks like a thick, paint-like artificial patina which is rarely if ever a good sign. To me that alone is usually a sign to stay away from a coin

It does look a bit like it's been dipped in molasses, doesn't it? The brown goop would account for smoothing out the fields and making usually sharper details like the hair look a little muckier. Looks like a genuine coin though!

My opinion is real, but the fields have been smoothed or thumbed.

I have a similar coin sestertius in my collection.

Is "thumbed" a typo, or an auto-correct error? Did you mean "tooled"?

Bronzes can be very difficult as many of them have been fixed or improved in current times. Best to have a specialist examine it.
