You know what I did for years working in a scrap yard I would find change in junk cars. Then drop the coins in a bottle of coke. Cleaned them right up! No need to spend lots of money!

Well, it's certainly better than drinking the stuff.

Oh definitely. I haven't even had any soda in over 5 years now. And didn't drink that anyway. I used it to clean everything imaginable off that change... it's not going inside me lol

It's great for cleaning corrosion of battery cables and connections.

I figure Coke cleans metal mainly because of two things: its acidity (due to CO2 and phosphoric acid), and its fizziness (due to CO2), which agitates it against surfaces. The sugar shouldn't be coming into play, except maybe to hold the acid residue against the surface when it dries.

If I'm right, then Diet Coke should be just as effective, and so should Pepsi, Sprite, and random store-brand varieties. But they're ALL bad for coins, because they can etch the coin's surface.

I have only had a couple of Coca Colas. I'm from North Carolina which is the Heart of the Pepsi Cola, but when I moved to Atlanta, Pepsi's didn't taste right, so I started drinking Coca Colas, but they didn't taste right either, so I quit drinking the Cola drinks for the 5 years I was in Atlanta, but when I finally got back in North Carolina, I got on a Pepsi Cola binge again. Better than alcohol. Never, ever drank alcohol.

Baking soda. Apply a few drops of water into a pinch of Baking soda. Makes it like a paste. Rub it on both sides and the edge.
It will shine it up instantly!

I've done it to all the silver coins I have ever metal detected.
I'm not with that "Don't ever clean your coins" statement :meh:

I haven’t drank a soda since I was about 16. Other than a couple times when I was given it by mistake. It’s awful. Alcohol though. Beer is good. Wine better whiskey quicker and vodka my friend

As a detecting point of view, I agree.
Have also had that natural look disappear with just a soak in water.
